According to Bloomberg, “For the first time, six fast-growing states in the South — Florida, Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee — are contributing more to the national GDP than the Northeast, with its Washington-New York-Boston corridor.” This initially became true in 2021, but the gap between these states and the Northeast has expanded over the past year.

Today, those six Southern states contribute 1.4 percentage points more to the GDP than the entire Northeast.

New data show six Southern states now contribute more to GDP than the entire Northeast

But, but, but, what was happening in 2021?

How do the populations compare?

Texas and Florida are two of our biggest states and are much bigger than NY and Pennsylvania

You also seem to be Cherry Picking Red States that are not connected geographically

Texas and Florida had much smaller populations than NY and Pennsylvania 60 years ago. The big eastern liberal states have been in decline for decades

Yes.

Whenever new information contradicts THE NARRATIVE - even when it's from fucking Bloomberg - it must be "cherry picking".

Go get de-programmed.

Well …..let’s look at what Cherry Picking means
It means selecting the data points that help your argument and discarding those that don’t.

If you want to look at Carolinas, Georgia and Florida as a contiguous geographical area to compare to the Northeast…it makes sense

But if you have to go all the way to Texas while ignoring economies like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky

You are Cherry Picking

It's not about geography.

Well, not entirely.

It's about states that stayed open during COVID vs. States that implemented foolish economy-killing lockdowns due to a virus with a roughly .02% mortality rate for most age cohorts.

And thus, red states are now carrying the economy - and places like CA and NY are in the doldrums.

Doesn't matter their locations, it's politics.

New York and Pennsylvania used to be the two biggest states in the country. What happened?

Now you are full out Crazy Train

Reaction to COVID has nothing to do with the economic standing of those states

Ever hear about California?
They have been the biggest state for over 50 years

Why have states like Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia and Texas increased their population?

Like I posted earlier…..The biggest reason is Air Conditioning making their climates more tolerable.

Also the end of Jim Crow laws and low tax rates

NY/NYC bleats for our taxpayer money constantly.....I swear if someone nukes NYC I hope when they decide how many megatons they need for the job they up it by half.....Just to be sure. ;)

NY has been a keystone of our economy for centuries
They contribute much more than they receive from the federal government

Not anymore.

They also had some of the strictest lockdown/vax mandate policies in the country.

Just like California.

And FL and Texas had the loosest.

But forcefully closing down businesses and schools and mandating the jab has absolutely nothing to do with it says our resident Lefty moonbat genius.

The stupid hurts.

NY is still the cornerstone of our financial sector.

So, in other words, better business climates.

As for California, their hay day is ending. They're bleeding corporations and population to other states. 2010 was the first time they didn't gain a Congressional seat. 2020 was the first time they lost one. 2030 they are on target to lose two to three if population outflows don't change.
