In case you've forgotten Barack, there was that little thing called the GI Bill, post WWII, that set the stage for the greatest economic boom ever, enabling millions of GI's to obtain a college education that would have been beyond their reach under any other circumstances which aided and abetted the unleashing of a technological avalanche benefitting mankind never before seen. But we know your US History leaves a little to be desired, fifty seven states et al.
From the movie "Apollo Thirteen" Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, in 1969 on the night of the first moon landing "It didn't take a miracle to go there. We just decided to go and went!"
Steven Ambrose, in either the forward or the postscript to his book "Citizen Soldier", remarked how startled and awestruck he was during the warm spring afternoon games of pick up basketball on the University Of Wisconsin campus at just how scar covered his fellow students attending under the GI Bill were.
