Kartini, as she is known here, was a woman with a powerful mind and strong personality.
She took the normal order of the time for women, tossed it in the bin and rewrote it, along with Indonesian history.
Kartini, now an Indonesian national hero, started mass education for women and in doing so, changed the whole structure of Indonesian society.
As a bonus, Kartini day is a national holiday here.
Today is her birthday so the people of Indonesia celebrate.
