Junior Johnson won over 50 NASCAR races and another hundred as an owner operator. President Reagan took heat for pardoning Johnson for a moonshine running conviction while Jimmie Carter was praised for pardoning rich heiress Patty Hurst who was convicted for bank robbery and murder.

The gigantic NASCAR conglomerate had it's origins in souped up moonshine runners in the South in the late 40's and 50's. Johnson sadly is probably the last of them.
