The head of Russian state TV network RT and one of Vladimir Putin’s top propagandists has suggested Moscow should freeze the war in the face of state-of-the-art Western weaponry that Ukraine now holds.

Margarita Simonyan, who has regularly called for all-out war on Ukraine, argued on prime-time television in favour of a negotiated solution and a halt to hostilities while referenda are organised in Russian-occupied territory.

She presented her U-turn as a best-case scenario now that Ukraine has access to Nato-supplied weapons now being used on Russia soil and in the counteroffensive.

“I’ve been talking about this for the whole year. It would be so good to stop the bloodshed right now, stay where we are, freeze it and hold referenda,” she said on Vladimir Solovyev’s prime-time talk show on Rossiya 1.

“Do we need territories where people don’t want to live with us? I’m not sure.”

Of course this option is not available to Russia. The only way this war can end is for Russia to withdraw completely from Ukraine, and even then, Russia will remain a pariah state with a shrinking economy for the foreseeable fruture

Freezing the war as with the Korea situation is very much not in Russia's interests, but the idea has been raised by America several times already.

What could be interesting for this discussion is determining why America wants to put it on hold.

No matter what we in the West believe, and it being true or not?

Russia believes that they can win this war by late summer.

So that's the view from the rabbit hole? This is the head of RT, the source you have lauded as the best source of information, that is calling for Russia to try to freeze the war because Ukraine is too strong for Russia to fight; it's not the US or Ukraine or any other Ukraine ally, it's Russia's top propagandist saying this.

It's going to be a minority voice in Russia until it's Putin's voice too.

Is that about to happen?

You may be as good a judge as me, but I don't think so this time.

I 'will' add that if Putin comes around to wanting it, it's automatic with America too. I don't think the Ukraine is a relevant factor at this point in time.

I agree, Russia needs to melt down their weapons of war & recast them into agriculture machinery. Better to feed the masses than kill them.

So after all these months of lauding RT, now you don't trust it anymore? Ukraine and its allies, including the US, have made it clear that this war will not end until Russia withdraws from Ukraine, so freezing the war is not an option for Russia regardless of what Putin thinks. After all, it was Putin's poor judgement that got Russia into this war that it cannot win and cannot afford to pursue.

Do you think I lauded RT? I've certainly referred to them and sometimes found agreement with them, Tass, and Sputnik. If you're trying to raise an issue with that, be specific.

You know that I know that for dog sake!

I agreed on that but it was 'your' contrary talking point less than 30 minutes ago!

Well that's your basic talking point!
How about if I neither agree or disagree, and see what effect that has on you? LOL

No, my main point is that when the head of RT publicly states Russia can't win this war and it should try to freeze the war to avoid greater humiliation, it probably means either that she has lost confidence in Putin's leadership, or she is testing the idea for Putin because he has lost confidence in his ability to win the war. RT has been Putin's mouthpiece for some time now, so the latter is probably the case.

even Girkin agrees

Breaking news! By me: Peace talks are taking place in private.
US blames Zelensky for Nordstream but America did it.
Ukraine did the dam too. Was America onside with that one?
America fears Nordstream being linked to US direct action against Russia.
Ukraine can't possibly win and so America is trying to counterspin the fact.
America is attempting to convince Russia to go to the Korea type temporary peace or at least have it appear to be stalemated.
But Russia holds all the aces.

Am i right?
Was America's war against Russia a very bad strategic calculation right from the beginning?

I sure hope so because there's nothing left between this experiment and nuclear war.
