Watching all 162 Tigers game on MLB.com as always, I noticed Fielder's bat seemed to slow down eary in the summer....gone was the violent swing. Had the league figured out keeping the ball on the outside corner to him, made the "shift" unnecessary? Or was it something else? Like filing for divorce from his wife?
Here's the current version of what happened with Prince Fielder in Detroit. The rookie from Venezuela, Avisail Garcia had supposedly slept with his wife, Chanel. "Mini-Miggy", the kid who so resembles his hero Miguel Cabrera they could be brothers, got sent down to Toledo after the rumors surfaced and eventually was traded through Boston to the White Sox.
Then the plot thickened. Was Cabrera injured in a clubhouse fight with Garcia over his unsportsman-like conduct with Fielder's wife? Garcia is as big as Cabrera and the two may have tangled, with Miggy ending up with the injured abdomen.
Between Garcia and Nick Castellanos, another budding star in the Tiger organization, most thought if the Tigers traded one of them it would be Castellanos. Garica is strong as an ox, fast on the bases, and has a rifle arm. After the trade, the organization put out the theory that Garcia's swing was too long, then too short, then nevermind.
Whatever happened, now we hear Prince may have initiated his own departure from MoTown, thinking his teammates didn't support him during the time in question. At his introduction with the Texas media, there was his wife Chanel beside him. Whether they have reconciled or not, there she was.
And the Tigers banked $78M in savings from that crazy contract that they can now use to sign on more help. Speed and defense to compliment a lights-out pitching staff is the new word in MoTown...finally they are building a team that fits that spacious ballpark.
