Primitive Technology

/---- This is exactly why I stay at a Hilton when I camp out.

I love roughing it out in the woods. I'll share a few pics when I can. :)

I caught a lot of flak when my GF's coworkers learned I was taking her camping. Some even threatened bodily harm if I didn't make things comfortable for her. lol
They laughed when they saw the pics.

We (the GF and I) later organized a local camping trip with a few of her coworkers.
Everyone had a great time, and It's now something we do every fall. :)

I have pics uploaded to a photo sharing site. I'll share some when I get home.

Very cool. It's hard to imagine primitive people's even using the most basic spinning stick on wood procedure before they knew how to make fire. I would bet they first used this method for drilling holes as was shown, and at some point someone was drilling a hole and the dry grass underneath caught fire. And then the aha moment. The other methods had to come much later. The use of fire to cook food is credited as one of the turning points to modern humans. Cooking meat makes it far easier to chew, lessening the need for large jaw muscles which kept skull densities thicker and restricted brain pain size, and digestion far easier that frees up energy the body would normally use for various things that could go to brain growth and energy consumption. Brain tissue requires about 20 times the energy to maintain than muscle tissue.

Homo erectus is believed to have been using fire 800,000 years ago and as far back as 1.9 million years.

You can also extrapolate how humans slowly formed societies with specialized skills. Some would be better at making the various tools shown as well as other tools and trade would have begun.

Camping in Texas in the summer is impossible without a fan or an A/C.
I went the A/C route with a Honda 2000 generator.

And with hot showers of course......

As you can see, we endured a week of conditions that were less than ideal.

All kidding aside I can start a fire with a bow and I could easily survive in the woods with a few basic items and in fact did in my younger days.

A compact fishing pole and or a .22 and the living is easy.

Wait...no flush toilet?
We were within a short walking distance of a bathhouse with toilets and hot showers.

It was part of the promise I made with her coworkers. lol

A bathhouse?
I hope for your sake barry wasn't there......he does have a reputation.

I've made a new trailer that hauls the SXS and has the expedition tent built in.
This is the trailer before mods and the the new tow vehicle.

The new trailer is lifted and built to drag the SXS any where the truck can go. With A/C,Heat and hot showers it's a go anywhere camp combo.

After a few hours of going without any food, I knew I needed to step up and provide.......
