Prediction For 2011

Look at the item in the OP, I think it's #23 - a race between a Democrat, Republican, and Tea Party candidate.

That's what you TP'ers will get if you go third party. Think Doug Hoffman NY23 on a national scale.

that analogy really isn't very good, I agree in spirit but...Perot is the optimal choice in that context I think.
I have wondered if Ross had issued a slate of candidates from the various parties that he could work with, would that have made a difference? Enough of a difference to throw the election into the House?

That analogy is perfect actually. Hoffman was the first and almost only bonafide Tea Party/3rd party candidate.

Perot was in fact what the new Tea Party might have been before the traditional Right co-opted it.

I voted for Perot, btw.

A short time ago I wrote a piece (ironic) that in order for America to move forward they must elect republicans. They have done that, but it may just turn out to be like the Gingrich congress, once again it will be show, stagnation, and eventually dismissal. Their 'Contract' like the spin of today is just another example of the smoke and mirrors clever Madison avenue corporate spin has on America. And unless we bring back Coolidge/Hoover and a complete crash, it is hard to say where we will go next. It seems that humankind must be hanging by their finger tips at the precipice, before they start thinking.

"And then came the '90s: the first of two lost decades, during which fantasies of prosperity and limitless personal advancement displaced all talk of political liberation, social justice, or collective action. In the English-speaking world, the selfish amoral-ism of Thatcher and Reagan - "Enrichissez-vous!", in the words of the 19th century statesman Guizot - gave way to the vacant phrase-making of baby-boom politicians. Under Clinton and Blair, the Atlantic world stagnated smugly."

"So it would be pleasing to conclude with the thought that we are on the brink of a new age, and that the selfish decades lie behind us. But were my students of the 1990s and after truly selfish? Assured from all quarters that radical change lay in the past, they saw all around them no examples to follow, no arguments to engage, and no goals to pursue. If the purpose of life as lived by everyone you see is to succeed in business, then this will become the default goal of all but the most independent young person. As we know from Tolstoy, "there are no conditions of life to which a man cannot get accustomed especially if he sees them accepted by everyone around him."" Tony Judt 'Ill Fares the Land' quotes from: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Ill-Fares-Land-Tony-Judt/dp/1594202761/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8]Amazon.com: Ill Fares the Land (9781594202766): Tony Judt: Books[/ame]

Way too idealistic a perspective to see the 199s and 2000s as stagnating smugly. I remember the tech-bubble and then the housing bubble and Greenspan the bubble-maker whining about "irrational exuberance".

Where we are at today, thanks to Wall Street, is being unemployed due to globalization, so "get accustomed" to the new reality, the new poverty.

I predict the Republicans in Congress will
Balance the budget
End abortion
Reduce the national debt
Force N Korea and Iran to give up their nuclear programs
Convince the world global warming is a hoax
Bring god back to our schools
Convince homosexuals they don't need to get married
Turn the government over to the states

That is why they were elected

I reckon that is why you have never won the lottery!!!

I saw an argument on TV this morning if gays who were dismissed had grounds for a lawsuit. Were their civil rights violated? Lawyers will argue about anything....for a fee. I hope the GOP brings back DADT ASAP.

there won't be a pure TP candidate.

I did too, so you do have a redeemable quality?

GOP has no say about it for at least two years. By then, the shouting will be over. I bet the judges will say there is no case for wrongful discharge, because no wrongful discharge occurred. I think the issue is moot.

Not for mega-millions, its $290 million for Tuesday. No one won powerball either and it is only $25 mill or so. I did win a quick pick for Indiana lotto Friday! Alas, no money though. Wouldn't know how to spend $290 million if I won it!

mdn2000 does not even know what a marxist is. How simply laughable he is.

The point remains. The social values conservatives are both the strength and the weakness in the GOP and the Tea Party. Need them for nomination but then watch them cause defeat in the presidential election.

I know Che was an Augustinian who graduated medical school but never became a doctor, I know Che murdered a boy for stealing some food to eat, no trial, just executed by Che himself. I know Che thought Marxist got to start to revolutions in a life and was stupid enough to get caught without his asthma medicine in Bolivia trying to start his second.

I also own all of Marx's important work. After about ten minutes of Marx's theory its painfully obvious nobody reads Marx's theory on Labor. Talk about a bore and poor writer.

I know I burned Jakey when I wiped my boot of Jakey, it felt like I stepped in dog shit.

Ever since then this is about the only dialogue we have.

Suits me fine, I do not respond the same to an intellect as I respond to a fool.

JakeStarkey is the fool. Thanks for another opportunity to respond, its a lot harder when you ignore me, that makes me believe I am not getting to you. You are weak.

That you know some names and some actions means nothing. You do not know what marxism or marxian economics (hint: they are not the same thing) or just what socialism or social democracy mean.

So here you are as the Black Knight cheering your victory.

Perot's party/movement was centrist, so it could draw from both right and left. That is how it managed to do as well as it did.

The tea partiers have settled in to the right of the establishment GOP, which means their only effect as a bonafide third party would be to split the GOP and leave the Democrats with two weak opponents.

That is why Democrats will cross over and vote Palin in the primaries wherever they can.

Even though it would help the Democrats win in 2012...

I could never admit to my grandkids that I pulled the lever for Palin

I voted for McCain, but the Dems would have to run a candidate like bigreb or Crusader Frank before I voted for Palin.
