'A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 85% of Democrats and 52% of Republicans support Medicare for all.

Why it matters: This single-payer system has divided the Democratic Party internally and gave Republicans a new way to attack Democrats in 2018. But this poll is the first to suggest that a majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle actually like this policy and that it could be a winning issue for candidates.

By the numbers: Two-thirds of Democratic nominees in 41 battleground House districts "want to expand the government’s role in healthcare," per Reuters.

  • At least 70 House Democrats have joined the "Medicare for All" caucus, with more expected after the November midterms.
  • And most House Dems support a Medicare for All bill, which has "six members of the Blue Dog caucus of fiscally conservative Democrats signing on as co-sponsors," Reuters notes.
Be smart: This policy is only going to get more attention as we head into the 2020 presidential election, when it will likely be a litmus test for Democratic candidates.'

For better or worse - like it or not, sooner or later - it looks like single payer will become a fact of life in America.

I support a car for every single American over the age of 16 too. Oh but wait...how are we going to PAY for it?

That's when the support plummets, amirite?

Currently a filthy, illegal alien who some drunk, idiot screwed in Mexico or Guatamala or whatever retarded country deposits the end result here in the USA, it is paid for by US citizen taxpayers and the thing gets citizenship, as well as the illegal invaders. So what is that $40K right there in addition to cutting the line in front of law abiding applicants trying to get to my country because they fucked up their own country? Anyhow, yes, if filthy, illegal alien POS scumbags get free medical, all American citizens should. And dental.

Unfortunately, the term "Medicare for All" in its current usage is a cynical misnomer.

Bernie Sanders and those doing this actually want pure Single Payer, and that's another animal. And they are dishonestly using the term "Medicare for All" to get it. So, they're fooling the country.

I'm all for "Medicare for All" - A public Medicare foundation with a significant free market Medicare Supplement/Medicare Advantage component to cover gaps and enhance benefits. But it's sad to see these people lying like this. Not surprising, of course, but sad. And typical.

Politics = Smoke & Mirrors

I did customer service for an insurance company that did medicare part d

2-3 times a week we each got a caller telling us they weren't dead.

that's right, the government, with no proof, declared someone dead and cancelled their insurance.

It takes at least 3 months to prove you are not dead. Good luck buying all your medications, getting operations, getting a doctors appointment.

keep in mind, that was just for the people that had part d, now imagine nearly 40 million Americans using a single program.

if you morons think single payer is the future...

If the GOP keeps whistling past the graveyard, Single Payer is what we're going to get.

Unfortunately, the American Right is in its own little dreamworld right now and has lost the capacity to communicate.

simply need to push for deregulation, let ins co's compete across borders.

Ah, that one.

The GOP told us for EIGHT YEARS that they had a better plan. They laughed at those of us who questioned it. Then, when they had all the power, they couldn't do it.

They know that deregulation and competing across borders wouldn't come close to fixing this, and they ran scared.

You folks brought this on yourself. Here it comes, you'll be responsible for it.

COOL BEANS!
Maybe this thing won't take as long as everyone was predicting!
It's way past time. The next thing to do is start going after the corps and people who are soaking the system for all its worth and making it outrageously expensive to stay healthy/alive.

we will be held responsible for supporting a capitalist free society?

ok

Bankruptcy for all!
.
Uh, guy, most countries with single payer spend 8% of their GDP on health care and get better results than we do paying 17% of our GDP on it.

Medicare for all would save us money, as it would remove things like investor payouts and CEO salaries and marketing expenses.

Spending more saves money.

Yup, that's the leftist economics I know. By the way, those countries are also bankrupt just like us, already without your crazy utopian plans.

If that's how you choose to see it. You had your chance and blew it. So, here comes the alternative.

not w/o election, and as we have seen, tyrannical laws can be undone.

Many Americans are well trained seals, 'dark money' controls their minds. Anyone remember when the Clintons came out for healthcare? The ads were unreal, soon the seals squawked socialism socialism, and soon they made their bed.

More words, more meaningless platitudes. That's all we've gotten from the GOP. When they get their chance, they can't handle it.

The Dems will actually act.
.
so you're supporting the idiotic idea of government run ins or just expecting the dems to do something to fix something that never needed fixing?

Yep. Happens all the time and Medicare forces these elderly people to jump through hoops to get it corrected including trips to social security.
