Hey All, to all those who envision the US becoming a gigantic European nanny state, may I ask why you believe we will become Canada and not slide down the communist rabbit hole. I think this is a fair question considering we have the leadership of an entire party attacking voters and not just political opponents. As powerful as the government is and with the size of our country, how can we protect ourselves from further corruption? There is a different set of rules for the ruling elite, and they are already chomping at the bit to take away any medical choices, and to grab complete control of the energy sector. I don't think this is tinfoil hat stuff, it has happened before and it is scary. I get that people want grand big government programs, we can debate later if that is possible, but I don't think we should ignore the threat of a more powerful, more corrupt government. The media is gone. Plain and simple, it is just gone. It is just a bunch of factions pushing things to their base. It doesn't even appear to be based on profit anymore, which is scary. So with nobody looking, can the left pump up the government even more to create super Canada?

I've been unable to get a straight answer from another poster on a different thread, so let's try this.

My position is that the size, scope, depth, breadth and authority of governments exist on a continuum. That a country can be, for example, "more" socialist or "less" socialist. "More" authoritarian or "less" authoritarian. "More" capitalist or "less" capitalist.

It seems pretty obvious to me, but I guess not to others.
