We are so done with plastic. Except we're not really done with it. We just can't quite let go. Its very plasticness makes it handy to mold easily into different shapes for zillions of uses. So what if our plastic wasn't actually made of what we hate about plastic—oil? What if our plastic was really ... wood?

You can make plastic out of hemp seed oil, pretty much exactly the same as making it out of petro. As far as using hemp fibers like in that article, that technology is almost 100 years old already. Henry Ford made a whole car like that. We would already be using this technology to build our cars, and homes, and pretty much everything if it hadn't been for William Randolph Hearst running a smear campaign against hemp in order to protect his logging interests.

Anything not made of petroluem is a good thing right now.


I might change my mind in a while, but for right now, petroleum is only good for propping up looney tunes.

Sounds good to me. I'm all for more choices in products. If we find a more efficient way to make plastic we can drive down the prices on oil and gasoline.
