Miami-Dade County announced today that it has finished counting votes for the 2018 election.

But photos obtained by New Times show scores of mail-in ballots sitting inside an Opa-locka mail distribution center — the same center that was evacuated last month after alleged mail bomber Cesar Sayoc's pipe bombs passed through the facility.

Several local activists demonstrated outside both the mail facility and at the Miami-Dade County Elections Department to try to bring attention to the ballots. Two sources who spoke with New Times allege hundreds of ballots might still be inside.

Suzy Trutie, a spokesperson for the Elections Department, told New Times her office was aware of the ballots but confirmed nothing else about them. She said that, per state law, any ballots not delivered to the Miami-Dade Elections Department by 7 p.m. on Election Day could not be counted toward the 2018 total.

"We do our best to educate voters that, if you’re voting vote-by-mail, then your ballot had to be at the Elections Department by Tuesday, November 6," she said. "Not everybody mailed back in time."

Asked whether the ballots had been sitting inside the Opa-locka center undelivered on Election Day — or when the place was evacuated — Trutie referred questions to the United States Postal Service. (After this story was initially published, Trutie added that the Elections Department ran daily post-office pick-ups this election season, and picked up ballots three different times on Election Day.)

Ty Russell, a reporter with CBS Miami, tweeted minutes ago that he'd spoken with USPS and that it was not aware of any ballots being mishandled.

If that is the ballot box that was in the news, well it had some office supplies and the photo was a file copy. Much to do about nothing. This is getting stupid and has to be a Dommo smoke screen.

I seems the FDLE needs to put a crime Scene tape across the State of Fla and start investigation of Crime. Lock up the People in charge of the state. I was bad when I left the State and appear not to have gotten better. Sorry folks just could not take being a LEO anymore.

Broward county seems to Berkeley of Florida. It's a place where all the societal misfits and malcontents have gathered together.

The first problem was that the governer is the senator vice versa they are being cheated by themselves?

I think the lesson here is never vote by mail if you don’t have to.

I was denied the right to vote myself, as I never received my ballot overseas. Crooked Dems made sure ballots to military overseas weren’t mailed.

I hand-carried it in to drop box late Oct. never trusted the mail. I dont know how anyone could do more? The ballot was huge. Would take too long day of?

Interesting development

Do you believe that voters who mailed their ballots in plenty of time, but had their ballot impounded due to a terrorist attack should have their vote tossed out?

Shouldn’t both parties support counting those votes?
Rules are rules.
We can't bend them even if it upsets you.

Of course you can
It happens all the time

Why would anyone object to votes being counted?
When we can't establish if they're legitimate votes or not....it's kind of hard to count them.
It's like investigating a crime scene.
The evidence is collected and then processed.
If there is no clear chain of custody the evidence is thrown out in court.
The same thing goes for elections.
We're dealing with dishonest election officials trying to steal seats in Congress.
The votes cannot be trusted.
Prove they are illegal before before you discard them

Even 1910 women knew that.

Unless they destroyed the serial numbers on the ballots they'll know if the voter was registered or not.
