Sign a petition to Bush at the link below (Moveon.org) calling for the US to transfer authority in Iraq to the United Nations.

When asked during his press conference last night who he was preparring to turn control of Iraq over to, he said that he didn't know. Fine. Who better than the UN?

Cambodia, Rwanda, Somalia, Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia... the UN ran away everytime. And in Iraq, when the UN HQ was bombed, they did what they know best... run away.

Do you really think the blue helmets can do a better job than the Marine Corps?

the UN is a peacekeeping force, not a military intervention force.

they seem to be pretty good at doing their job so long as its in a peaceful atmosphere, but sure as hell if another al-sodr were to rise up, the UN would be gone.

One must be perusing that pathetic website in order to find this garbage. How sad.

This isn't droolingliberals.com though, it's doubtful you'll get many signatures here.

Moveon.org... for people who really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really hate George W. Bush.

Do you really expect an answer?

Your point is well taken.

I choose the title for the thread poorly. The petition does not call for a withdrawal of US forces. The marines will be in Iraq for a long time.

President Bush reiterated last night that he intends to turn over authority in Iraq on June 30th. He has been very clear that the June 30 date is firm. Asked last night who he was planning to turn authority over to in Iraq, he said something like: we'll have to wait and see.

Who better than the UN? Again, the marines will still be there no matter who Bush taps to lead Iraq. The council in Iraq? Some religious figure? The kurds? Before you flame me, let me know who the President should turn control over to on June 30th or say the President is wrong and the June 30th date should be reconsidered.

1) Often a lot of the UN forces are American
2) Isn't this the same UN that got the hell out of there when they were attacked?
3) Isn't this the same UN that was in charge of the oil-for-"food" program?
4) Isn't this the same UN that pretty much did nothing about Rwanda and would not enforce resolutions vs Iraq?

The MoveOn family of organizations consists of three entities. MoveOn.org, a 501(c)(4) organization, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on important national issues. MoveOn.org PAC, a federal PAC, primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values. And MoveOn.org Voter Fund, a 527 organization, primarily runs ads exposing President Bush's failed policies in key "battleground" states.

Just calling a spade a spade...........

I believe that site caters to idiots. I've yet to find one reasonable person that subscribes to their site. Nothing but foaming at the mouth liberals and hate machines. Enjoy!

ST8 got to hand it to you, you are always good for a few laughs. You might as well rule out the U.N., they are an abysmal failure at 9 out of 10 ventures they undertake. I'm going with Iraqi Governing Council or Bush will change his mind and postpone the transfer of power. My real hope is that in the next 45 days we up the violence exponentially and wipe out most of the turds and finish this deal with the Iraqi's having a distinctive fear of biting America, America the hand that feeds them.

Moveon.org is a joke, its home to anti-americans and terrorist sympathizers.

actually, he said "We will find that out soon. That's what Mr. Brahimi is doing; he's figuring out the nature of the entity we'll be handing sovereignty over."

You can't hand over sovereignty to the UN, you could hand over control, but sovereignty can only be given to iraqis. The details of what Brahimi comes up with and how soon they are presented will be valid points for discussion in regards to the handover, especially in relation to the deadline of june 30th.

Maybe I skimmed through the thread too quick, but has anyone adressed the issue of WHOSE AUTHORITY our marines are under if/when the UN DOES take over?

I knew I could count on you buddy.

You were not only the only one who could answer the question, but I agree with what you wrote. I think the above is exactly correct. Unfortunately, I think a turn over to the Council will be a disaster but we'll have to wait and see.

You post is a beautiful summary of what is wrong with the American right. You are the only one capable of answering the question but as the rest of your post proves, you are also clearly crazy!

There you have the right in a nutshell -- either informed but wacko, or clueless!

peace,

"Peace" your butt.

Like all the other socialist propagandists, you claim peace while in the same breath starting riots.

-Then you run away when faced with the reality of the situation.

The only thing you HAVEN'T done is claim yourself a victim yet.

Well you might want to tell me what exactly is false about war being about killing the enemy and how Iraq does not depend on America now.

If somebody like yourself on the very left fringe of American politics thinks i'm crazy that is reassurance that i'm on the right track. Enjoy the next 4 years of Bush sir.
