Penn and Teller on the value of a college education

A comedian/magician and his silent partner tell us how valuable higher education is while 22 Million kids are in college. Next thing you know comedian Jon Stewart will be analyzing the news. Oh, that's right the comedy channel is already the primary source for left wing news analysis.

There are basically two excellent reasons to get an education or to educate yourself

1. To be a better person/citizen/human

2 To be a better tool/worker/DOer.

If you can manage to do both at once?

YEAH for you.

I'm not sure one needs to go to college for either of the above but I think in most cases college helps.

1) is wrong. I know plenty of people without college educations that are better citizens/humans than most with college educations.

But their jobs aren't as good.

He was doing good until he got to the part about high school stopped teaching vocational type training to teach, instead "higher learning"? Huh?

The truth is, Republicans have worked overtime to cut funding for schools. Look at the right wingers here on this site saying you should be home schooled. Yea, you're are going to learn vocational training AT HOME????

We had a contracted plumber at my previous company that home-schooled his son.
The boy (13) was also his Apprentice.

That's one.

1. it was a joke to refer to Obama as a snob and the laughter proves that people understood it that way.

2. Santorum was pointing out that creating jobs is the best way to help people improve their living conditions, and he was contrasting the approach he (emphasizing job creation) proposed compared to Obama (emphasizing sending people to college, as if some folks aged 50+ are going to be able to just pick up another trade).

3. Santorum was not criticizing the President for wanting to make college available for all, but that Obama sees it as the primary means to get Americans employed.

Again, spin from a libtard like you is hardly a surprise.

A joke? surely you jest
It was a major part of his platform. The people laughed and cheered wildly as Santorum hit all the buzz words "Liberal College Professors" "Indoctrination" "Obama wants to make you in his image"

Sure....Santorum has a future on the stand up comedy circuit

His comment about Obama being a snob was clearly a joke, ass hole.

No it wasn't. And if you look at the entire speech, he goes on and on qualifying that statement. Just because they laughed, it wasn't a joke. You want me to post the entire speech?

Oh bullshit!

Santorum was using the joke as an intro to the next part of his speech, a common thing for good speakers to do.

I know you aren't THIS stupid, moron.

Playing to his base

The rest of his rant supported his "snob" comment

It supported the contention that Obama was not thinking of average Americans when he says he wants to fix unemployment by making college more available. Some people, like yourself, are really just not cut out for college. Santorum thinks that job creation is the best approach to lowering unemployment rates, while Obama has focused on lowering the total number of people counted in the labor pool instead which is the statistical game by which he has 'lowered' unemployment.

Santorum, like the conservatives he panders to, is an ass

Obama did not speak of sending everyone to college but making post secondary education which includes trade schools available to everyone. Available not forced

Santorum spoke to his base and his base responded as he expected.....intimidated by the prospect of advanced education.......Snobs

I love the logic behind this attack on higher education.

Willy Mays didn't go to college so if you don't go perhaps you too will become a great outfielder.

It's not an attack. It's a simple realization that not everyone needs or should go to college.

Why does a plumber or a steamfitter need to go to college? Why does a stock trader or an entry level buisness person need to go to college?

Some things are better taught via apprenticeships. Later in life if the person shows ability in management or leadership, they can go back and get a buisness or management degree.

rdumbass, must you always be talking out of your dumb ass! You simply don't know what you are talking about. There is plenty of vocational training out there. And here in KY we have a 'technical college.' Many people go there rather than to the traditional 4 year liberal arts school. They become associate level nurses, machinists, mechanics, etc. etc. Here in KY we have not lost the values of people who can 'do' things and KY is a red state, the last time I checked. Too bad you won't get off your dumb ass and 'do' some things. You wouldn't be such a dumbass always talking out of your dumb ass.
