I 'spose. But maybe I'm being too pessimistic in putting it all on voters. I was talking about this with a friend last night. The problem is that government has grown so far beyond reasonable constitutional limits. Once it becomes the be-all, end-all of a society, democracy is no longer just a reasonable way to choose leaders - it's a desperate struggle for control.

This is source of our bitterly divided electorate, in my view. When government controls so much of what we do, and how we'll live our lives, the thought of someone you disagree with running things is a terrifying prospect. If government were limited in scope and power, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But as it is, having 'your guy' in charge is a vital to protecting the kind of life you want to live. That's why people are so willing to fall for the 'lesser-of-two-evils' blackmail.
