On the short "Active Topics" list one finds at the right side of USMB pages, I saw the topic "Jason Priestley Claims to Have Punched Harvey Weinstein in the Face in 1995." For "grins" I read the linked article accompanying the OP of that thread. What I saw there, along with the narrative of the the OP was quite disappointing.
No, I don't care that Priestley punched Weinstein; that he did is between them. What I care about is that, if one is to judge by the article author's remarks, the U.S. has descended even further into a character malaise whereby barroom brawlers are now lauded for their inability to exercise emotional restraint. To wit....
From the article:
Seriously? A young actor "feeling his oats" determined that being told to leave a party he wasn't hosting took to punching in the face the party's de facto host! What?!? Priestley punched someone over whether their having asked him to leave what was, for that moment, "their house?' Would it really have been too much to just leave as requested?
As recounted by Priestley:
The details of the imbroglio transpired are what they are; however, as deplorable as punching someone in the face is, Priestley's doing so and why isn't the theme/topic of this thread. (If members care to discuss that, the linked thread in the first sentence of the OP is a fine place to do that.) What I read next in the Observer's article, what left me aghast is.
Seriously? People, in Hollywood or elsewhere dream of punching in the face someone whom they detest? That's where our culture has landed? I had rather it not be, but maybe it is....
For my part, I now will say that dreams of suckerpunching middle-aged men or women in attendance at social events takes little beyond unmitigated gall.
Note to the "peanut gallery":

According to the 48-year-old actor, Weinstein yelled at him to leave a Miramax Golden Globes after party back in 1995. The argument apparently got so heated that it came to blows.

As recounted by Priestley:
Wow! An invitation to, away from the festivity of the party, resolve their differences was "all [Priestley] needed to hear to haul off an punch the man in the face! Really?“‘I didn’t say you had to leave’ [Weinstein] replied. ‘You just told me to leave… right over there,’ I tell him once again. Getting heated now. He then grabs me tighter and says, ‘Why don’t we go outside and talk about this.’ That was all I needed to hear. ‘I’m not going anywhere with you,’ I said as I pushed him back and punched him with a right hand to his face. Suddenly, there were security guards pulling us apart and I was escorted out of the party…”

Priestley does not explain why Weinstein was yelling at him to leave in the first place and it’s unclear how accurate this story is. But if true, it represents the dream of just about everyone in Hollywood at the moment. We score the bout in favor of Priestley by unanimous decision....Hopefully, [the story and Priestley's actions aren't] too good to be true.

I am not at all defending Weinstein. I'm deriding the pervasive mindset that applauds intemperance.
