Obama's top three priorities

1. Ending the war in Iraq
Only if that means it is over because we won. And we will have some very strategically located, large bases to counter Iranian and Russian agression for the next 50 years.

2. Developing American energy independence

A good thing, but he will have to include things he opposes, like DRILLING and NUCLEAR power, along with coal power to get there.

3. Universal healthcare for all Americans
Only if he adopts Hillary's plan of MANDATORY UNIVERSAL PARTICIPATION. Which means EVERYONE, without exception, PAYS premiums.

Nuclear power is unnecessary and creates radioactive waste. The Italians want to send their waste to us.

Obama's plan is not mandatory. Hillary's plan was the worst of both worlds, with people being made to support the current bloated system. By the way we already have universal healthcare, but an expensive, patchwork, inefficient version of it. That is why we pay twice per capita what the other Western democracies pay for heathcare.

Iranian and Russian aggression? Are we going to war with Iran and Russia? We can barely occupy two small countries at one.

Cannot have Universal coverage without Mandatory universal participation. The nation cannot afford it unless EVERYONE, without exception, PAYS.

And we cannot achieve ANY level of energy independence unless we use every kilowatt hour of energy we can produce, domestically, which includes drilling for every last drop of oil and bubble of gas, mining every ounce of coal and maximizing nuclear power, something we can do very well because of our huge uranium deposits. We have to DO IT ALL, not just whatever program fits one's political agenda.

And Iraq is a long term STRATEGIC move. We need the bases. And yes, we are going to be in Iraq for the rest of your lifetime and it doesn't matter who the President is or what party controls Congress.

You do realize that most energy derived from oil isn't involved with cars right?

We currently get 19% of our electricity from nuclear power. We need to expand that...

We have universal healthcare now, just a patchwork, expensive, inefficient version of it.

We don't have to do it all. Nuclear waste is not necessary. Energy is all around us. To quote Buckminster Fuller, "There isn't an energy crisis, there is only a crisis of ignorance."

Iraq is bleeding us dry. Bush borrowed $700 billion dollars from the Chinese to fund the war. Iraq is not our country, and there is no compelling American national interest there.

No, we need to decentralize energy production. Every house in America should be required to have solar shingles and small wind turbines. Algae farms can produce 10,000 gallons of ethanol per acre. Alternative energy technology is available, and it is clean. Remember the "victory gardens" in WWII? We can do it the simple and easy way, it just takes the political will.

What would this do to the price of homes? How would middle income Americans be able to afford this expensive technology?
Cloudy Outlook For Solar Panels: Costs Substantially Eclipse Benefits, Study Shows
Despite increasing popular support for solar photovoltaic panels in the United States, their costs far outweigh the benefits, according to a new analysis by Severin Borenstein, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business and director of the UC Energy Institute.

The Israelis are building one solar energy plant that will supply 5% of their energy needs. If they can do it, so can we.

As Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industry Association told me earlier this year: "If the investment tax credit is not renewed, it will disrupt this high-growth sector, impact tens of thousands of U.S. jobs and undermine advances in clean energy production."

This is from your post...
In other words if the government doesn't pay for this expensive technology it will fail...

From your post...

Producing electricity with solar energy now costs 1.5 times more than using coal or petrochemicals.

I noticed that too ... I'm afraid that we are going to need something much more efficient than that. ... the 50% cost increase is significant ... I don't think people would be willing to sacrifice that ... the logistics are another problem ... Israel is like .3% the size of the U.S. and has 2.4% of the U.S. population ... there are more than 10 time as many people per square mile in Israel than the U.S. ... to me, that says it will very likely cost even more to implement in the U.S..

Here are the things that should be Obama's top priorities.

#1 Ending the war in Iraq

#2 Bringing us Universal Healthcare

#3 Repealing NAFTA

#4 Repealing The Patriot Act

#5 Repealing Taft-Hartley

#6 Bringing Bush/Cheney up on criminal charges for war crimes. (send them to the Haig!!!)

#7 Fire John Bolton!

#8 Strengthen the FISA act

#9 Abolish The Office Of Homeland Security!

#10 Prosecute John Ashcroft!:eusa_whistle:

I notice 30% of your "top priorities" have absolutely nothing to do with policies....:eusa_whistle:

Is English your first language?

Apparently not.
policy n 1: a line of argument rationalizing the course of action of a government; "they debated the policy or impolicy of the proposed legislation" 2: a plan of action adopted by an individual or social group; "it was a policy of retribution"; "a politician keeps changing his policies" 3: written contract or certificate of insurance; "you should have read the small print on your policy" [syn: insurance policy, insurance]

Kirk, you avoided my question. How does Obama propose to make these policies reality? It's a valid question, and I'm not the only one that wants to know.

[Dem leaders] say he must do more to convince the many undecided Democrats and independents that he would address their financial anxieties rather than run, by and large, as an agent of change -- given that change, they note, is not an issue.
