We often hear this argument repeated in many ways such as the government has an interest as if that had to be considered at all. Often it is used as an excuse to excuse some action the government is doing. That would be fine if this was a dictatorship of some kind but what is the point of having the people decide what the government should do in a democratic fashion if the government's interest can negate the popular opinion at any time it wants?

This is not a democracy.

This is a constitutional republic. Complain to the founders if you don't like it, or start the amendment process.

There's a process, over ride it.

If corporations are recognized as people for political and economic rights, then logically so must the government.

Corporations are not people, reckon we'll have to learn that again the hard way, and we've just not hit bottom yet.

IAW with SCOTUS, yup, corps are people for political and free speech reasons. It follows that when the Dems take over, Citizens United will be overturned.
