Obama may be misreading 2008 deportation law, report shows - Washington Times

he Obama administration may be misreading a 2008 law when it says it has to release most illegal immigrant children from Central America who are surging across the border, according to a new report being released Wednesday by the Center for Immigration Studies.
Jon Feere, legal policy analyst at the center, said that 2008 law applied only to unaccompanied minors who don’t have a parent or guardian already in the U.S. — a situation he said doesn’t apply to “a significant majority” of the children now jumping the border.

in your dreams

this is one sneaky bastard we have as president......

what i'd like to know is how are they protecting all these 'trafficked' children by setting them loose all over the country.....?

human traffickers are even sneakier.....they will pose as parents or as family members....they will provide the children names and addresses to fool the agents....anything to get the kids they want through the detention centers and into the country and under their control.....and since the children don't have to appear before the court for 3 years or so they can just disappear into the 'shadows' as most will not show up for the court hearing....what chance do these young people have....?

You do realize that the conservative 'Center for Immigration Studies' is indicating that *more* of these central American children are supposed to be released into the United States than Obama is allowing, yes?

What? barackobama is a constitutional scholar, smart as a whip, knows all, makes the tides rise and the ice freeze! He 'misread' the law? Not. A. Chance. He knows exactly what the law is, he knows exactly what he is allowing, he is playing chess not checkers.

link pls....?

you do realize that most of the children are not victims of trafficking.....?

Misreading? That's assuming he read it at all :eusa_hand:

Did you bother to read the OP? It indicates that Obama should be releasing *more* illegal immigrant children into the US than he's allowing.

Do you support the president's position that fewer unaccompanied children from Central America should be released into the United States. Or the OP's position that more unaccompanied children from Central America should be released into the United States.

Links? That would be article linked in the OP....which you've obviously never read.

.......The law, the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, was designed to combat human trafficking, including sexual trafficking of children. It says that authorities encounter children from countries that don’t border the U.S. who are traveling alone, the kids should be interviewed to determine if they have been trafficked, and then should be quickly turned over to social workers, and eventually reunited with families.

The children are usually still subject to being deported — but many of them never show up for their proceedings, and end up blending in with the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

Per the Center for Immigration Studies, those unaccompanied children from central america who have family already in the US....are supposed to be released to social workers and then reunited with their families:

Families already in the United States.

Did you get that part? And please take special note of 'many of them never show up to their proceedings' part.

The policy you're railing against is Obama NOT releasing more of these children into the US. With the Center for Immigration Studies indicating Obama should be releasing MORE into the US.

As for whether or not they're being trafficked, that's what the interview is for. And with 50,000+ children, the interview process takes a long, long time. What exactly is Obama doing regarding these children that you even disagree with?

where exactly does it say that....? pls quote it for me...

i get just the opposite impression...
“Since there is little evidence to suggest that illegal immigrant children currently arriving at the U.S. border are victims of trafficking, and since few can be described as ‘unaccompanied alien children’ under federal law, the 2008 trafficking law has limited applicability to the current border surge,” Mr. Feere says in the new report. “Accordingly, the Obama administration should be limiting its use of the law where possible."

what????????

From the article:

He also said that while the children are often being smuggled, there’s little evidence the children are being trafficked against their wishes. Rather, they and their families are usually paying smugglers to help them on their journey, which means they shouldn’t qualify for trafficking protections.

Which you find out by interviewing the children. Again, the law requires that any unaccompanied child from non-contiguous countries be interviewed before being deported.

The center for immigration studies is insisting that if the children have family in the US, that they should be released to them IN THE US. Despite these children being illegal immigrants.

With Obama refusing to release more of these illegal immigrant children into the US, instead pursuing deportation proceedings with the children remaining in US custody.

So which do you support? Obama's policy of NOT releasing these illegal immigrant children into the US? Or the Center for Immigration Studies that insist that MORE of these illegal immigrant children should be released into the US?

Its one or the other. Pick one.

Obama is delivering on his promise to fundamentally change America.

Yes

Not exactly. First the pres. talks out of both sides of his mouth on the issue. Second, the op is claiming they have parents here and the kids should be given to their parents, further proving the 2008 human trafficking law does not apply.

He's delivering on his promise to fundamentally change American by NOT releasing tens of thousands of illegal immigrant children into the United States?

Really?

So yes you read the OP. Okay, so we're all on the same page that the parents that the Center of Immigration Studies is referring to are INSIDE the United States, and that the CIS believes that Obama should be releasing the majority of the illegal immigrant children in detention INTO the United States.

And which do you support? The President's position that more of these children NOT be released into the United States? Or the CIS position that MORE of these children be released into the United States?

Either you support the president...or you support the CIS. Pick one.
