What would grow the economy faster and more sustainably: a vibrant middle class or a vibrant upper class?

If given the choice, would you favor economic policies that aid and sustain working families or the wealthy? Remember, the Conservative pundits have been saying for years that you never got a job from a poor person. Does that mean that those pundits favor the wealthy over the middle class?

Which drives the economy: favoring the wealthy (the so called job creators) or consumer spending?

Would a wealthy person open a factory because they glanced at their 1040 and, after calculating they paid a lower tax rate, decide to celebrate by opening a shoe factory? Or would a wealthy person open a shoe factory if there was demand for shoes by consumers with disposable income?
