Many at the time thought that it was the work of one of the factions taking that action to "force" the U.S. into the war to topple Assad. This is one of a very few examples of a false narrative that has been cast in concrete to the detriment of Barry Soetoro. Normally it goes the other way; a false narrative inures to his benefit.
