On Oct. 1, 2012 the Obama administration started awarding bonus points to hospitals that spend the least on elderly patients. It will result in fewer knee replacements, hip replacements, angioplasty, bypass surgery and cataract operations.

These are the five procedures that have transformed aging for older Americans. They used to languish in wheelchairs and nursing homes due to arthritis, cataracts and heart disease. Now they lead active lives.

But the Obama administration is undoing that progress. By cutting $716 billion from future Medicare funding over the next decade and rewarding the hospitals that spend the least on seniors, the Obama health law will make these procedures hard to get and less safe.

The Obama health law creates two new entitlements for people under age 65 – subsidies to buy private health plans and a vast expansion of Medicaid. More than half the cost of these entitlements is paid for by cutting what hospitals, doctors, hospice care, home care and Advantage plans are paid to care for seniors.

Just Take Pill

Astoundingly, doctors will be paid less to treat a senior than to treat someone on Medicaid, and only about one-third of what a doctor will be paid to treat a patient with private insurance.

On July 13, 2011, Richard Foster, chief actuary for Medicare, warned Congress that seniors will have difficulty finding doctors and hospitals to accept Medicare. Doctors who do continue to take it will not want to spend time doing procedures such as knee replacements when the pay is so low. Yet the law bars them from providing care their patients need for an extra fee. You’re trapped.

President Obama seems to think too many seniors are getting these procedures. At a town hall debate in 2009, he told a woman “maybe you’re better off not having the surgery but taking the painkiller.”

Absolutely no evidence other than a far right reactionary nutter's column, while ignoring the common knowledge fact that private insurance had restrictive covenants such as these.

AS this racial president cuts services to the elderly the Obamas and Oprahs of the world believe they will get there wish--All white people gone and interracialism is the law of the land.
Old people dying as fast as possible is what Oprah has eluded to in her latest racial comments. You see the mix of the races has not happened fast enough for them. So as they want all of the30's 40's50's and 60's people gone from the voting booth they do not care what race they are but getting rid of all races and having there new mixed race in control is one of his agendas. The old king idea of if we can't get them out we will bread them out--Obama and Oprah are of the same mind set

Hilarious. Republicans pretending to care about seniors. Or anybody except underprivileged billionaires.

obama has a solution to older people who are suffering the ravages of aging. It's called the knockout game. The seniors are attacked by black teenagers and die. No more ravages of aging.

we know it sucks you voted to doom your grandparents to their end of life of nothing but, suffering

Betsy Wetsy is just recycling the Bishop Willard losing lies like "cutting $716 billion from future Medicare funding over the next decade" that the Lyin' Ryan budget cut also since it didn't cut any Medicare services, only overcharges by greedy insurance companies.

As it's been the billionaires that set up all the charitable foundations that take care of seniors as well as the poor, we're much better off with billionaires than unemployed pot heads that don't do anything but suck off their senior parents.

I don't know the validity of the article, but one would be hard pressed to believe that seniors will benefit from ACA.
Why? because the person who holds the purse strings - also controls what is inside of it.
We have already seen examples of the government making changes/demands before ACA even started!!
You would have to be a fool not to believe there will be more - and you would have to be a retarded fool to believe the changes will benefit us.

Why is anyone worried?
As soon as the compassionate Republicans retake Congress or the White House, the ACA will cover everything!

Now you want to blame Obama for acts of GOD? Way to go Girl.:cuckoo:
Doctors and insurance companies have been paid too much for the services they give anyway. A 10 minute office visit my doctor get $250 and that is a crime against the elderly. Paid for by Medicare and Medicaid for the elderly. Obamacare stops this madness. You paid into unemployment insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, subsidized housing and other federal and state programs and do you alway collect? Obamacare is no difference.

When am I going to feel this??? So far nothing has changed for me and I am a senior. I got my COLO raise, my perscriptions are the same and my doctor still no going anywhere unless he want to get in line with illegal aliens for a job at walmart. I don't have to get approval from Obama for a lab work and I was admitted to the hospital 6 time this year and I have a nurse and a PT that come atleast once a week and sometimes twice a week.ANd I paid into this for over 50 years. Everything don't work for everybody. Suck it up. GOD said it wouldn't. Some of us are going to heaven, some to hell and some on earth ever and some dead for ever. Suck that up too.
ALso last year I fell into the donut hole and paid nothing for my meds. The problem is you have not read the ACA like most people and what you claim will happen has already been happening before ACA was passed into law.

well, you need to move or change doctors...You're fault for being ripped off...My doctor visits are 40 to 60 dollars..
You think government run healthcare is wonderful, then go on Medicaid or any government funded welfare program...My mother suffered at the end of her life at 86 years old being treated like cattle shuffled from one doctor to another, from place to place because they don't make enough to CARE...Hope your end of life care is more pretty

I am 74 years old, have had MS for over 30 years and I am aging well and enjoying the best years of my life and I make it this way. I take care of my self physically and mentally and do not DEPEND on government to work for all aspects of my life. You complain that Governemt is too much into your lives and that is because you expect it. Yes you do.

Arrticle is another right wing lie. I live with 120 seniros in a complex and no one has complained about Obamacare and getting less meidcal procedures, etc. Me at the head of the list. Unless it is right wingers that want more they they actually need. I keep healthy not depending on my doctor to provide all my health care.

Paid my whom? You or your insurance company? Medicare pays for mine and that is waht they charge medicare. Rip off. Obama care will stop this criminal act. Charges like this is made to meidicaid also.

Please, I am a senior and know other seniors that have great care in home and facilities. I have always choose my doctor and never been shuffled. You were doing something wrong. They choose the facility they want also. Medicare and Medicaid pays for the poor and only certain facilites will take Medicaid. Because they give more services that you definitely pay for. I have also been in Rehab after a MS flare up and I always choose the same one and get great services from all staff. I and my family will make my end of life care the best for me. I am not worried one bit.:eusa_whistle:
