New York Times says "We'll think about it".

A majority of the more than 650 tech workers at the New York Times want to unionize, according to the NewsGuild of New York, which said it will seek voluntary recognition as the bargaining agent.

Management received the request Tuesday morning and is studying the matter.

“Voluntary recognition is a significant decision,” the company said in a statement. “At the New York Times we have a long history of positive and productive relationships with unions, and we respect the right of all employees to decide whether or not joining a union is right for them. We will take time to review this request and discuss it soon with representatives of the NewsGuild.”

Dominion offered to count the votes

To my knowledge, a company's approval is not required for employees to unionize.
No...but voluntary recognition is a legal labor term meaning the employer accepts that a majority of employees wish to unionize without requiring a vote.

Of course the oh- so-liberal New York Times has no intention of allowing it's tech employees to unionize without demanding a secret ballot vote...because they are unbridled hypocrites.

it used to be a lot of people's dream to be "managing editor of the NYT"

not anymore, my friends, not anymore...journalism is dead
