NYPD revenue quota fight

NYPD can break DeBlasio if they hang tight.

They need to make it a him or them situation.

Guess who can be easily replaced?

Policing all across America has come down to revenue targets, even in rich neighborhoods. Was invlved in an accident where I was issued a ticket after the fact based on the officer taking as gospel the other drivers word despite obvious holes in it. Went to court over it which meant sitting down with city AG in his office and conclusively proved the other guy made false statements. Guy wanted a continuance of no same or similar s for yr and it would go away, reason...they still get to keep over half the ticket price and he admitted city was leaning on him to get as many as he could. This was in one of the wealthiest if not number one in MN

That is one of the core injustices that has come out of our police force: its use as a virtual tax collector. A VERY VERY VERY REGRESSIVE tax collector. It should be outright illegal for the state to profit from 'crime.'

Do you have a legal argument on this? It would be very interesting. Seriously

The greatest NYC mayor of all times was Rudy Guiliani. He took on the legacy of a generation of corrupt democrat administrations and turned Times Square back into a tourist attraction. Guiliani doesn't get the credit he deserves. Here we are under another democrat administration New York has been turned into a politically correct nut house and Police Officers are designated to enforce lucrative anti-smoking ordinances and other craziness while Officers are shot and killed by jihad extremists.

What do you mean a 'legal' argument?

It is currently legal for the police to cite and fine you. The government then legally takes that money and spends it. As almost everything under the sun is illegal - the cops are essentially able to go out and pilfer whatever money they want or are asked to. This money does not come from the rich either. It mostly comes from the average Joe or the poor.

It should be illegal for the state to profit from collections on tickets. That gives the state a direct incentive to write them. The supposed purpose of law is to keep us safe and society orderly. Does dropping the speed limit in a area without pedestrians by 10 miles an hour for hale a mile help anything? Does it keep us safer? No, of course it does not. instead, it give the state an easy place to collect money from its populace without actually raising taxes. ANYONE other than the government does this and we call it extortion. The police become income collectors rather than servants more every year and I am tired of it.
