NRA's argument that ,"good guy with gun saves the day" fails again.

When UNTRAINED good guys with guns are...not so good I guess.

“Good Guy with a Gun” Accidentally Shoots Himself and His Wife in Church
The elder members of First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains were reportedly discussing the recent church shootings in Sutherland Springs, Texas and Fresno, California when the man pulled out his gun and bragged about carrying it “everywhere.” He and his wife, both in their 80s, were accidentally shot when he pulled the trigger to demonstrate how a safety works.

Texas 'good guy with a gun' shoots carjacking victim in head -- then runs away
Houston police say that an armed man’s attempt to stop a carjacking went terribly wrong on Saturday night when he shot the vehicle’s owner in the head, then fled the scene.

According to KHOU Channel 11 News, the shooting took place around 11:15 p.m. at a Valero gas station in north Houston.
Police officials say that two men jumped the owner of a Chevrolet pickup truck and absconded with his vehicle.
As the men struggled with the car-owner, a passerby produced a gun and fired multiple shots, missing the thieves but striking the victim in the head.

30-year-old Joshua Weldon had good intentions when he saw a woman’s boyfriend assaulting her and made the decision to step in and stop it. According to police, 32-year-old Andria Richardson was being attacked by her boyfriend, 30-year-old Ryan Gilliken, on Wednesday when Weldon drew a firearm in an attempt to defend the woman. Unfortunately, his bravado did not work out well for anyone but the assailant.

So everyone has a gun and everyone starts shooting? Oh that sounds really good....

WTF are the police supposed to do in the middle of this warzone you are dreaming of?

The reality is the scenario you are worried about simply doesn't happen. The teachers who are armed protect their class, and if the bad guy tries to come in the room they get shot. Then, the teacher stays in the class until the police tell them to come out. The cops will find out from the teacher that they have a gun etc. etc. etc. I do find it interesting that everyone who is anti armed teachers automatically thinks that they are going to turn into a epsilon semi moron because of a active shooter situation.

The evidence shows overwhelmingly that the teachers respond in exemplary manner but die because they have no means of fighting back.

Don't you think it is time to try something else because we have ample evidence that your way doesn't work.

He doesn't care about the truth...he is an anti gun, extremist troll....

Yes.....and you don't mention the 1,500,000 times a year armed civilians use their guns to stop violent criminals....that is rapes, robberies and murders stopped every year.....

And that Colorado walmart story is a lie, the police lied about the shoppers since the shoppers weren't in the way...

How convenient. They lied.

I'm sure a number of civilians have stopped crimes on themselves or their property with guns. I'm equally sure, however that "good guys with guns" wreak havoc and cause a lot of problem with police attempting to gain control of a situation. Just for example - how exactly are they to know who the "good guy" is and - you have "good guys" and "bad guys" independently firing weapons. We don't need more wanna be vigilantes.

Just for example - how exactly are they to know who the "good guy" is

good guys identify themselves and comply with the police

civilian Stephen Willeford stopped Texas church shooter Devin Kelley

police took over the scene when they arrived

Bad guys can do that as well.

Police are faced with multiple shooters in a tense situation involving fleeing/sreaming civilians. No time, lots of action and lots of deadly force.

Not a good combo when fast decisions are needed and the shooter isn't clearly identified.

And again, we have already had mass shootings with multiple civilians armed and on the scene and the cops have had no problem knowing who the shooter was....you can keep making things up but reality shows you don't know what you are talking about....

Lots of cops....lots of civilians openly carrying pistols and AR-15 rifles...and the police had no problem knowing who the bad guy was...

2016 shooting of Dallas police officers - Wikipedia

A protest was organized in Dallas by the Next Generation Action Network in response to the killings of two men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, by police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota, respectively, days before.[8] The Dallas protest was one of several held across the United States on the night of July 7.[9] Around 800 protesters were involved, and around 100 police officers were assigned to protect the event and the surrounding area.[6] Before the shooting occurred, no other incidents were reported.[10]

About 20 to 30 open-carry gun rights activists joined the protest march, some wearing gas masks, bulletproof vests, and fatigues, according to Dallas Police Chief David Brown.[11][12][13][14]

The anarchy would have been so horrific that I quickly gave up, and put the guy on ignore. You can't argue with this kind of logic.

Do you realize that 18 states already allow teachers and staff to be armed.......this is not imaginary.......it is already going on and nothing you state is happening...

States that allow teachers and school staff to carry guns - Crime Prevention Research Center

Here is a list of the state laws.
Alabama (which bans possessing a weapon on school grounds only if the carrier has “intent to do bodily harm”)
Arkansas (with approval of the superintendent) — March 7, 2018, 13 districts(according to the local president of Moms Demand Action)
California had allowed concealed carry on school grounds until it passed a law in 2015 that required the approval of the school administrator. However, beginning on October 14, 2017 a new law took away that authority from school administrators (more here).
Colorado (with approval of school board” — Hanover School District, Fleming School District, and “some” other school districts, Briggsdale School District
Connecticut (with approval of “school officials”)
Georgia (with school board approval) — school districts discussing it, but none apparently allows it yet.
Hawaii (no specific law)
Idaho (with school trustees’ approval) “a handful” of school districts allow staffers and teachers to carry, and here
Indiana (2013 law that lets school boards decide) February 23, 2018: “most don’t. more might start
Iowa (with “authorization”) — no district currently allows.
Kansas (school districts may allow employees with concealed-carry permits to carry guns on campus if the district does not have a policy prohibiting it)
Kentucky (with school board approval) Example: Pike County School District
Massachusetts (with approval of the school board or principal)
Michigan (as long as the gun is carried openly)
Minnesota (with approval of School Superintendent) — some do it
Mississippi (with school board approval)
Missouri (with school board approval) Crocker School Board Approves Arming Teachers
Montana (with school trustees’ permission) — In 2017, Belfry, Custer, and Limaschool districts allowed teachers and staff members to carry. Another school district allowed a former teacher to carry. Two others allow current staff members to carry, but they weren’t currently carrying.
New Hampshire (ban applies only to pupils, not adults) more here
New Jersey (with approval from the school’s “governing officer”)
New York (with the school’s approval)
Ohio (with school board approval) — in 2015, at least 40 School Districts in Ohio allow Teachers to Carry Permitted Concealed Handguns. Right now there are reportedly over 100 school districts.
Oregon (any permit holders, some school districts prevent employees from carrying)
Rhode Island (with a state concealed weapons permit)
South Dakota ( “school sentinels” law authorizes districts to create, establish and supervise the arming of school employees, hired security personnel or volunteers.)
Tennessee (allows certain school employees to carry a firearm on school grounds if they are licensed, meet certain qualifications, and have written authorization from authorities)
Texas (with the school’s permission) — Texas Association of School Boards says 172 school districts in Texas allow staff and board members to carry firearms onto school premises
Utah (with approval of the “responsible school administrator”) — about 5% of the public school teachers in the state carry and about 10% to 12% of the support staff.
Washington (eight schools in the Toppenish School District have nineteen administrators who carry)
Wyoming (as long as it’s not concealed)

I actually think it can be worthwhile - IF DONE WELL - in the right community, and with community support and with absolutely strict training that is refreshed annually.

For example - a school in Utah vs a school in innercity Chicago.

Chicago needs it more than Utah does........

Teachers are like anyone else - only as good as their training and character. How do you know what you say is true in all cases? You don't. They can be poorly trained, they can be vigilantes, they can freeze like many of us would. Or they can be affective.

Or not.
Teacher trained in use of guns accidentally fires weapon, injures a student

The thing is it is only as good as the individual, the training they are given, the willingness of community to support armed teachers AND - the culture of the community. Salt Lake City has a completely different culture than New York City when it comes to guns. The idea of - lets arm the teachers is only as effective as the community, it's not some sort of blanket solution to the problems of school shootings. For every teacher that effectively hinders a shooter there will be those who don't or who shoot the wrong person. It can be part of a solution - but so can regulating some of the firearms we purchase. Or addressing mental illness in our society in a meaningful manner with funding and parity.

You are talking out of your ass......Showtime has a documentary series called "Active Shooter." You should watch the Aurora theater shooter episode before you post again.....the shooter picked that theater because it was a gun free zone.....

In the Documentary they talked to survivors and law enforcement officials...the Court Psychiatrist who interviewed the shooter stated the shooter wanted the killings to be completely impersonal.......he walked in from the exit and fired over the heads of the people in the rows closest to him...because he was too close to them and that made it too personal...he shot into the back rows...

Which means....dumb ass....had one or more people in those front rows had a gun, they could have shot the fucker out of his socks....and considering that as soon as a police officer confronted him outside the theater he surrendered.....that shooting could have been stopped by an armed civlian in that theater...

So before you talk out of your ass again, you should know what you are talking about...

Armed citizens didn't stop the Denver shooting, but they did distract police
Armed citizens "absolutely" distracted police by drawing guns during the Colorado Walmart shooting on Wednesday night that left three dead, police said—the latest example of law enforcement struggling to deal with armed civilians in the middle of a crisis.

Food for thought here guys.

Yeah, cops shoot themselves all of the time too Coyote. Idiots do idiotic things all of the time..

This police chief has managed to shoot himself TWICE!

Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Himself For The Second Time

COP Shoots Himself In Leg By Accident (SNIPPET)

Yup. They do. But at least a cop is a trained idiot. Not some vigilante.

Who's talking about being a vigilante? That is silly. Teachers don't patrol the halls, they STAY IN THEIR ROOM AND ONLY ENGAGE WHEN THE BAD GUY ENTERS. What is so hard to understand here?

It isn't hard to understand, he doesn't want to understand, he doesn't like guns, he prefers that schools remain targets for school shooters.........

First: I'm a bitch.
Second: I'm not anti-gun. I'm just not a gun sycophant.

Goodnight, Coyote. I am going to bed and dream about Roy Rogers, who never killed anyone with his gun, but always just shot the gun out of the hand of the bad guy!

I think you guys are missing the overarching psychology at work here.

These criminals are just like every other criminal...they are looking for victims, not resistance...that's why they target schools, a place where they know for a fact they will be met with the absolute minimum of resistance.

AND...they don't want to be upstaged. When mass shooters are met by armed civilians...the civilian becomes the hero of the story...and they are a footnote.

Let me give you an example...

Off the top of your head...name this current Florida shooter.

Now name the Newtown shooter.

How about the Aurora Colorado movie theater shooter...or his nickname.

I can name every one of them off the top of my head.

Now, name one victim...even a hero who was shot protecting others?

Come up with any?

Here's where it gets interesting...name the guy who shot up the church in Texas...the one who was then shot by the civilian with the AR-15...without looking it up.

Even name the shooting...

He killed 26...and not one of you knows his name...because he wasn't the story...the hero civilian was.

These shooters want notoriety...to be remembered...for their name to be repeated so often that it is ingrained for years.

And these debates over restricting the rights of 370 million over the actions of 10 criminals gives them exactly what they want...even if it is posthumously...because they have seen the 9 that came before them's names live on in infamy.
