Just like a true Communist he wants to eliminate one of Americas favorite recreations, fishing both onshore and offshore. This will be a jobs nightmare for coastal residents and charter fisherman all over the US. Ironically Sarah Palin is a fisherman and runs a commercial salmon fishing business. What better way for Obama to hit back a potential opponent by destroying something she and all Americans love doing. I urge everyone to call their lawmakers. This will fly under the radar if nothing is done.

Obama administration will accept no more public input for federal fishery strategy

Task force ends public input - ESPN

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is "fluid" and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn't issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.

That's a disappointment, but not really a surprise for fishing industry insiders who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force. These angling advocates have come to suspect that public input into the process was a charade from the beginning.

Click here for archive"When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario," said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.

"Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.

"In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President's concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority."
Consequently, unless anglers speak up and convince their Congressional representatives to stop this bureaucratic freight train, it appears that the task force will issue a final report for "marine spatial planning" by late March, with President Barack Obama then issuing an Executive Order to implement its recommendations — whatever they may be.

Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.

Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.

That article was almost entirely devoid of any real information on what is going on.
Lots of rhetoric though.
And according to the pic there are no black fishermen.

Find an article that says something clear on this topic and I would appreciate it.

I get the feeling that recreational fishermen are being used for some other purpose by another group or two.

Basically, over fished areas are being closed to fishing to allow stocks to rebound.

I received a special notice about this from the NRA, Bass Pro Shops, Daneilson ltd, The NM Game and Fish dept, the AZ Game and Fish Dept, The Natl. Assoc. of Professional Hunting and Fishing Guides, The American Sportfishing Assoc., The Marina at Roosevelt Lake, Law Enterprises, and the emails keep coming in.

As one who is a licensed hunting and fishing guide in my state, I can assure you that there is something valid in this story. I have never received so many 'notifications' and requests to contact both my state legislators and those at the federal level in one day, never.

This move could be a blessing in disguise as it is exposing the "environmental" and "animal rights" movements for what they are and could actually lead to the total discrediting of both.

There is just too many fishermen and hunters for this to stand. There are simply too many that make at least a partial living in support of hunting and fishing.

Write, call and email your so-called leaders on this.

Why would the pic need to show black fishermen?

Didn't Feingold introduce a bill about a year ago in reference to changing what the government owns in reference to waterways? What happened to that bill?

If Arizona Fish and Game, as well as NM Fish and Game is concerned, so am I.

We all want to support the proper management of our wildlife, some of us even volunteer to help. Some of us have even performed citizen's arrests to support enforcement of wildlife management.

As with all things scientific, when politics gets involved, science goes out the window.

Here is another press release from the American Sportfishing Assoc.
American Sportfishing Association

I got this last month, it cites the 'new' waterway rules you speak of in your post.
It also has links to contact your federal legislators.

I edited this to add yet another link:

I have a question...what would happen to all those fishermen and hunters if their game has been fished and hunted to extinction?

Just another issue this President is on the wrong side of. I can't think of a single issue he has been on the right side of since taking office. He's actually beginning to look worse than Jimmy Carter at this point. Yikes!

What are theY? trying to prevent the extinction of all fish. We overfish, oyu want to wipe out all the fish in areas so there is no more to fish? Like it or not, without efforts like this the fish population will be depleted.

So the US Fish and Game agents are going to tell fishermen they can't fish? That sound like a tough job. Is this for recreational fishermen or just commerical? Over fishing by commerical fishermen sounds like a reasonable thing. The other ones, not so much.

Although both of the links I hit so far only seemed to be written to get people fearful with no details of what will happen.

All fishing will not stop in all areas.
This is a fear driven campaign in my opinion.

Of course it is.
The National Marine Fisheries Service proposes banning commercial and recreational fishing for all 73 managed snapper and grouper species, including common fish such as sheepshead.
The ban makes those species off limits in federal waters — about 3.45 miles from shore and extending out about 230 miles — from Florida to the Carolinas.
A red snapper ban went in effect on an interim basis last month and lasts through June. But the federal fisheries service can extend the ban another six months as it considers a year-round ban that also would apply to grouper and would stay in effect until red snapper rebound.
The council would ban fishing for the other species as a way to prevent bycatch of red snapper.

In Federal waters. If we can't regulate fishing in federal waters what is the point of having them. And boo hoo...no catching or eating snapper for awhile.

Beginning to? The man is a total failure of leadership.

Did anyone sea the recent TV special about the Sea Shepherds?

I was absolutely blown away by these stories of how they go out and confront the fishing boats who are illegally fishing for Right Whales in international waters!

Once again, Progressives come out in droves to provide cover for the idiot-in-chief. If Obama figured out a way to suck the air out of the world, killing all life, liberals would come up with a justification for it.

Remember the "Kittens of the Sea" campaign? This is just the implementation of that. For years, animals rights activists and vegetarians have tried to stop recreational and commercial fishing. They've finally found a friend in the White House.

If people don't vote out these bastards in 2010 and 2012, we are going to lose all our Rights.
