Most of Interstellar's profits are from foreign audiences. Why? Does space travel bore Americans? Is there a stigma attached to sci fi and space opera that it is only for nerds? For a movie to appeal to Americans does it have to have guns and explosions?

Three hour movie for people with a three minute attention span who think Jesus will save them. It's not rocket science, pun intended.
