NICE: Georgia Official Skips Bible, Takes Oath With Raised Fist On Malcolm X Autobiography

Here is what the woman said: "Having seen the transformation of someone who came through a difficult background to become vocal and push conversations on race in a radical way is powerful. Then he shifted course and saw race in a different lens as he got older. And the fact that he was arguably killed for his politics. These are things that I want to embrace.”

Not bad. Only someone who has not read the book or whose only knowledge about Malcolm X is through the filter of a pseudocon propagandist would fail to grasp her meaning.

The woman is in error that Malcolm was killed for his politics. He was killed for his integrity. He demonstrated a tremendous amount of humility and courage when he realized his hero and mentor was a liar and a hypocrite. Even then, Malcolm attempted to remove himself without drawing a lot of attention to his mentor's shortcomings.

It was only when his mentor attempted to smear him that Malcolm was forced to set the record straight. And that got him killed.

It was more a religious matter, not a political one. Malcolm walked the walk. Elijah Muhammad did not.

"Then he shifted course and saw race in a different lens as he got older. "

In the beginning, Malcolm called white people devils. And that's the image of Malcolm X many propagandists push about him today.

But after visiting Mecca, Malcolm saw the error of his ways and realized all races could and should work together. He spoke non-stop about peace between all races from that point on.

If this woman is walking away with that message, that's great. I sure hope so.

Malcolm X's autobiography is actually a very interesting read. It was ghost written by Alex Haley, the author of Roots.

I greatly respect Malcolm's X's integrity. In fact, it was his integrity which got him killed.

It would not be a bad thing for this young woman to follow the example he set toward the end of his life.

Agree, I think Malcolm X's history of criminal to black separatist to the realization that we're all here together and the need to work with each other is quite interesting and a uniquely American story.

The bible has been misused to justify slavery and segregation. And we see it being misused today by bakers as a shield for their bigotry toward gays.

We don't often see the bible being used any more in the public forum as an instrument for loving one another.

That was my point....if she knows his final years, then yeah it's great, but most only see the black power very hateful person......but his post Mecca personality did make him a great person to admire and emulate.

I disagree, the bible and love go hand and hand and even people you hate like right wingers embrace that. And it's not a shield to hate gays......I know lots of gays, ironically one made my wedding cake, my wife was good friends with him and his boyfriend and they are great people......but people should have a choice in life.....either your for freedom or not.

not loving homo sex, does not make you a NAZI

He was black, that is reason enough for most of those in here to hate him

Nah, he was a leftist.....I hated him as much as the Clintons or Kerry.
I would support Tim Scott for President...and I did support Ben Carson....so you need to get over yourself....the racists are in the democrat party......same as it always was. don't believe me...just ask Kanye or Mia Love.

"Mariah Parker was sworn in as Athens-Clarke County’s District 2 Commissioner on Monday, but instead of a Bible or the U.S. Constitution, Parker asked to swear in on a well-worn copy of “The Autobiography Of Malcolm X.”

Parker told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “They asked if they would like the Bible and I said no. My mother asked if there was a copy of the Constitution around. No. I wanted Malcolm’s book. I think they saw it coming.”

Swearing an oath of loyalty on 'the word of Malcom X' above 'the words of God'

She admitted she had only finished reading the book just recently...if she thinks Malcom X came though hard times and learned more about loving people without letting things like race get in the way, she should really pick up the Bible and read it (more). Jesus was tortured, crucified on the cross for us, and in the end loved all of us - to include his assassins - so much that he asked God to forgive us - 'for they know not what they do'. She would learn a whole lot more that she could apply to her life than she wil ever learn in a book about Malcom X....

In MY humble Opinion....

At least she gave a clear indication of what type of person she is, unlike Christians that wear a lambs skin to cover their wolf desires.

What you're referring to aren't real christians. They are the apostate.

There is absolutely no reason to hate. X was an antisemite and racist. Vile qualities to have.

I have never actually seen a left winger ever acknowledge their sins. Funny, how you virtue signaling hypocrites accuse anyone.

Ironic about Malcolm X. I wonder how many black slaves of the democrats know what Malcolm X thought about those blacks and white liberals.

Lets take a look.

Lol at black democrats and white patronizing left wing racists.

I remember one scene from Roots. The part where he was on that small boat traveling down that stream and he had finally returned to his boyhood
hamlet.

I just closed my eyes and pretended that it was the Queen Mary dropping off
one million of them.

There is no reason for the to be taken on anything other that the Constitution of the United States of America. The other things that we Americans swear to, we swear to as individuals.

Who gives a fuque? "Swearing" on a book is a meaningless and utterly irrelevant relic of the Stone Age. For all it matters she could "swear in" on a Sunday comic section of the Cincinnati Enquirer from 1946. They ain't swearing to read a book -- they're swearing to do their job.

Yea he called out both blatant racists and also the so-called well meaning white liberals who didn't want radical change -- and he was right

Something tells me however, you don't agree with the political and economic power part of his message huh?

What is a county commissioner? Was she elected? I think they named a street in Washington D.C. after the Black revolutionary so we can't really complain.
