The government frequently works against the poor despite always advocating for them. The only reason politicians have a problem with ride sharing services is because they add competition, cutting into the poor service many taxi companies provide, and the tax cab unions donate to their political campaigns.

My city has some of the shittiest cab service you can imagine. Uber and Lyft were welcomed into the city by the government but they were fought every step of the way by the few cab companies and a few of their political cronies.

yes, most politicians are liberal socialist so hate the Republican capitalist competition Uber provides. Lib soviet regulation of the taxi industry has been exposed and it is no better than lib soviet regulation of the health care industry through Obamacare.

Same here in Vegas, although I wouldn't say the government welcomed it. They were more pulled along kicking and screaming.

its interesting that in NYC mayor DeBlazio, as a old fashioned liberal, hates Uber but much of liberal NYC loves it because of the improved service and prices and also because it's a cool start up which is seen on both sides of the political fence as an essential ingredient in America's resurgence if there is to be one..

Our mayor was very receptive and it was something that the general population in the city really wanted. It was a no-brainer. The cab companies tried to stymie their arrival with loop-holes and state committee rigmarole but they ultimately lost. They just asked if they could raise their 'flag drop" rate and their "minute of waiting' rates. Yeah know, to stay competitive. lol.

Uber and Lyft are both headquartered in San Francisco, and the politicians here love them.

The Mayor of SF even declared a "Lyft Day" in 2013.

it great when socialist politicians are forced to love inevitable disruptive Republican capitalist innovations that break their liberal grip on political power.
