The only reason politicians have a problem with ride sharing services is because they add competition, cutting into the poor service many taxi companies provide, and the tax cab unions donate to their political campaigns.

its interesting that in NYC mayor DeBlazio, as a old fashioned liberal, hates Uber but much of liberal NYC loves it because of the improved service and prices and also because it's a cool start up which is seen on both sides of the political fence as an essential ingredient in America's resurgence if there is to be one..

Our mayor was very receptive and it was something that the general population in the city really wanted. It was a no-brainer. The cab companies tried to stymie their arrival with loop-holes and state committee rigmarole but they ultimately lost. They just asked if they could raise their 'flag drop" rate and their "minute of waiting' rates. Yeah know, to stay competitive. lol.
