New Poll Shows GOP Shifting In Fascinating Direction...

Life, liberty and property. You're tossing a woman's liberty out the window and making her body the property of government.

So in your liberty first mind what gives the woman's liberty to kill more priority over the babies liberty to live?

You keep quoting the founders. They supported life, liberty and property. You only support one of the three and that one while depriving someone else of the other two. I support all three and that no one has the right to deprive someone else of any of them.

And you have yet to show where the founders believed that abortion should be Federal and not State law, which they never thought to mention.

FYI there is no federal legislation regarding abortion apart from some funding restrictions. Instead there a judicial branch decision that covers the entire nation. That decision clearly drew the lines as to individual and state rights when it comes to abortion.

Of course FreedomWorks has such a poll, and it is worthy to take to the outhouse.

Really, liberts, you were shown in the last set of primaries and elections how much we don't want your odd predilections.

Republicans in record numbers moving toward the ideals and principles of libertarianism, according to a new poll by released by the grassroots group FreedomWorks.

The survey of all registered voters, which was conducted last month, found that a full 78 percent of Republican and GOP-leaning voters self-identify as being fiscally conservative and socially moderate

The results of the survey were first shared with POLITICO.

The poll found that its Republican and independent-leaning respondents aren’t suddenly advocating legalized marijuana and instructing people to read “The Fountainhead.” Rather, as POLITICO’s James Hohman notes, many self-identified Republicans are simply falling in line with traditional libertarian views on limited government.

This comes after years of GOP domination by “defense hawks” and “social conservatives.”

Now, according to the FreedomWorks report, the GOP is starting to back away from social conservatism and hawkishness and lean toward libertarianism.

Asked what concerns them the most, 40 percent of survey respondents said “individual freedom through lower taxes and reducing the size and scope of government,” 27 percent said “traditional values,” and 18 percent said “strong national defense.”

Kellyanne Conway, who ran the poll, said they are seeing a massive increase in the number of respondents who think the government has grown too large and has become too expensive to maintain.

“The perfect storm is being created between the NSA, the IRS, the implementation of Obamacare and now Syria,” she said. “People are looking at the government more suspiciously. They’re looking with deeper scrutiny and reasonable suspicion.”...

When you ask Americans generic questions about reducing the size of government, they are all for it.

But when you ask them specifics like, "Should we get rid of the FDA?" you will get a hugely negative response.

If you ask Republicans about reducing the military down to the size of a cub scout troop, you will get a hugely negative response which blows any fantasies about "shifting in a fascinating direction" out of the water.

That's the part which punctures a Libertarian's balloon.

The only shifting which occurs is when the other party takes the White House. Then those who were gung-ho for war in Iraq and Afghanistan and wanted a third front in Iran are suddenly all sheep-like in their opposition to shooting a handful of missiles at Syria to force the bastards to give up their chemical weapons usage.

Those who were sporting flag pins and being totally on board with waterboarding and warrantless wiretapping and spying on Americans one day are suddenly screaming for impeachment and crying crocodile tears over the Constitution the next.

Fuck the whole brainless herd.

Comrade Starkiev, what you and your ilk showed in the last election was that your predilections are food stamps and welfare type benefits.

And of course, the Libertarians offer none of that.

As long as people are allowed to use deadly force in self defense against drug addicts, legalize it all. Just STOP funding their medical care.

Should we stop funding the medical care of fat people too for eating too much crap?

Absolutely. Freedom comes with responsibility. But to "conservatives" (esp. a whole drove on this board), being free is the last thing they really want. They want a police state, where they can make sure none of their fragile opinions on what other people should and should not do with themselves is absolute blasphemy.

They are no different than LOLberals, only in which why they want to control society is different.

Good points, but of course it would depend on what type of "conservative" and what type of "Liberal" you are talking about.
