My Thread about News Corp: The Potential Fallout

I'm not talking about people having an 'issue' with some of his companies. I'm saying that if you want to destroy News Corp - or even just Fox News - one should consider the whole house of cards. Pull one card out... it might stand, it might not. But we should consider... think... rationally and without hysteria and partisan bullshit. I know you dislike Fox. Do what I do.... don't fucking watch. It's not hard. But they have every right to exist - unless they are found to have broken actual laws. Just be careful what you wish for.... because if we shut one station because some people don't like them, we're on a very slippery slope.

It's not about people liking them.

It's about that organization bribing public officials and committing crimes.

It about whther Murdocks managment style is really "whatever it takes" or if this particular company was a aberration from the conglomerate's usual style.

Sure, and if Murdoch has committed any crimes, I'm totally supportive (and a tad enthusiastic) of having the full weight of the law brought to bear on him. However, people are stating things as fact that are not facts. There are very few hard facts yet - because the police are still digging into it.

The Milly Dowler situation - that is fact - it has been proved.

10 journalists from NotW have been arrested. Fact. 1 journalist from NotW was convicted of criminal activity. Fact.

As for the rest of it.... not really a lot of facts.... just speculation.... And there is no suggestion (other than from people with an anti-Fox News agenda) that Fox News have ever broken a law.

In other words, if the facts prove him guilty of criminal behavior, then fuck all those people who will lose their jobs that you were crying about in your OP.

Got it.

Asking questions about a potential impact of the potential outcome is 'crying'? Interesting - and totally ridiculous - perspective.

Nice try at trying to pick a fight but I'm not interested.

I shall just throw this thought into the mix. It is illegal in the US to bribe foreign officials. Therefore, if News Corp's subsidiaries are proved to have bribed UK Police Officers, Murdoch - and a whole bunch of others - could face charges in the US.

Murdoch has been caught out and is now paying the price.....

Bullshit.

Murdoch has not be "caught out" at anything but public opinion based on nothing but pure hate and guilt by association.

Don't even talk about facts, since you have never listed any but the above opinion. Which, as is still self evident, is way far biased.

Opinion is not fact. Not evidence. It's nothing but personal.

Go watch your toilet flush backward. There's more truth and fact in that than there ever has been in any of your postings.

Given the very limited facts in evidence, I would suggest that Murdoch is guilty of corruption at the least... and possibly much more.

However, the potential impact on people who work for him (most of whom are guilty of nothing more than working for him) could be, if the howling hordes get their way, very bad indeed.

So, everyone seems very enthusiastic (and with good reason) to see Murdoch and his empire destroyed.

I wondered what exactly the impact of destroying that empire would be. Firstly, we need to know what exactly this 'News Corp' is... what does it own, and where does it own it. So, here:

Ok. So that's quite a substantial company. From there, what else would we need to consider:

How many people would lose their jobs if News Corp was destoyed?
How many supply chain jobs would be lost?
How much revenue would be lost?
How much tax money would be lost? (Bear in mind that each of their employees pays tax somewhere)
How many countries would that affect?

There are a few more questions, but I'm kind of hoping that people will think logically before running off at the mouth about destroying this 'evil' corporation. Think. Preferably critically, instead of partisanly.

So your point is that NewsCorp is too big to fail

However, the potential impact on people who work for him (most of whom are guilty of nothing more than working for him) could be, if the howling hordes get their way, very bad indeed.

Again with the howling hordes bullshit. :eusa_hand:

You already said if he's guilty throw the book at him. Doesn't that make you a member of the howling hordes?

Just read that AP reporting that DOJ is looking into allegations that News Corp hacked into the cellphones of 9/11 victims.

That's some nasty stuff, if true.

This was the same reasoning that the car companies used to get their government bailout..."Just look at all the satalite businesses that will close down if the car industry doesn't get bailed out." We all know how popular that was. Now you suggest that we make him immune to prosecution so that his business can keep running?

Feed him to the Hogs.

You could be using pseudonym in your 'articles'. Who knows? In fact, who knows if you even write 'articles'?

I do use pseudonyms.

Who cares if I have even written 'articles'? It's nothing to do with you. Any more than your career is anything to do with me. I don't give a rats ass what you do.... you should mind your own business about what I do.

you are a fucking moron. YOU stated you have written for newspapers and such around the world. YOU put it out there for everyone to see. Thats not being private and he snooped around and blew up your spot.

You cant claim for people to mind their own business when you yourself use the point in your argument of what you do for work.

He called you on it and you pussied out.

Who 'snooped' around?

I have never claimed to have written for newspapers around the world. I stated a fact. I write articles that are published in major newspapers. I have never claimed to write for them. Just that they publish what I write. You may not understand the difference but it is different.

He didn't call me on jack shit. He demanded a produce a link to an article I've written. I refused. I have no need to prove that.... this thread isn't about me... or my work. And I certainly don't need a little band of fools trashing my 'comments' pages with their partisan bullshit.

Feed him to the Hogs.

So what you're implying is that you're a thick bastard who doesn't recognize the difference between providing background information and asking questions and saying that a company is 'too big to prosecute'. Thanks for confirming that you're not very bright.

If Murdoch committed a crime he should be prosecuted and if his empire falls....so be it

We saw the same thing with Bernie Madoff. Nobody is too big to prosecute

Rightwingtwat sayeth: Not only should we not tax 'job creators', but we shouldn't hold them accountable for their criminal actions either.

This right winger doesn't say that. This right winger just likes to hang the guilty. And, this right winger thinks we should consider ALL the evidence, instead of hysteria and bullshit.

I know, that makes me a rare breed.... an intelligent, non-partisan person.

You might not appear so silly if you wouldn't keep making these "non-partisan" claims about yourself. The op wasn't something I could agree with, I doubt Murdoch will be destroyed but you have put some thought into it.

You may want to embrace the wingnut within tho.

The OP wasn't supposed to be something you agree or disagree with. It's just a list of the companies owned by News Corp around the world, and some questions about what would happen to those companies, etc, should News Corp go under.

I fail to see how that is partisan. But I guess, if my focus was destroying Fox News - no matter what the price - then I would feel differently. Partisans... not me... but quite a few others.

Embrace your wingnut, Sarah. It suits you more than me.

I don't disagree... what I'm wondering is.... other than prosecuting him - as an individual - but if, as seems to be the agenda of the left, what you really want is to destroy Fox News... what price are y'all prepared to pay? So far, there has been no accusation (other than hysterical ranting) against Fox.

Really?

Hmmm...that's funny.

Where?

Can you produce ONE post from this thread proving that?

Personally, I think all he is guilty of is setting loose journalistic standards for his media empire. He has always been more concerned about profit regardless of how it is obtained. I don't consider that criminal liability...but if he pays a monetary price, I think he has it coming

I'm inclined to believe likewise... there is a vast amount of pressure in journalism, particularly for rags like the NotW. The culture is 'get the story at any price'. If that is the case, it's Brooks - and possibly Coulson who should face the sharp end of justice.

The replies so far indicate that a significant number of posters interpreted the OP very similarly, but 'allegedly' differently than the author intended. And the author's reply to each so far is that they are stupid morons who didn't get the point. You'd think that after the skips on this broken record get into the double digits, the author would reconsider the impression given by the OP, perhaps using the now provided reasonable person standard.

Well, you'd think that if the author wasn't a partisan shill anyway.

But whatcha gonna do? :dunno:
