Dozens of Muslim protestors gathered to demand that businesses stop selling alcohol in a popular East London area yesterday.

The group, led by former Al-Muhajiroun leader Anjem Choudary, warned restaurants and shops in the Brick Lane area that they face 40 lashes if they continue to sell the product, which is banned under Sharia Law.

Around 60 men and women in burkhas handed over warning letters to Muslim-owned businesses in the area after the protest was initially delayed by a small number of English Defence League members staging a counter-protest. Controversial cleric Choudary was at the forefront of the protest. The Al-Muhajiroun group he formerly led has been banned under terrorism laws. Organisers told The Times the protest was held yesterday to coincide with the large number of office workers who would be in the area for Christmas parties.

He also defended three ‘fantastic’ men who were jailed last week for attacking drinkers while on a ‘Muslim patrol’. He was referring to an incident in which Jordan Horner and another Islamic extremist told a couple they could not hold hands while walking down the street, because it was in a 'Muslim area'. The radicals also attacked a group of men drinking in the road, and told a woman she would face 'hell fire' because of the way she was dressed. Horner, 19, Ricardo MacFarlane, 36, and a 23-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons were sentenced to 68 weeks, 12 months and 24 weeks in prison respectively.​

You need to understand that these people do not represent the majority of Muslims. There is as much a range of Muslims as there are Christians in the level of their religious strictness. I lived in Turkey for two years. Alcohol is freely available. There are shops all over the place that sell alcohol. Where I lived, which was an ordinary neighborhood populated my mostly Turkish, there were 3 or 4 shops within 5 minutes walk of my apartment, mini marts is what they were, that sold all kinds of things, including alochol. What you people don't know about the Muslim world would fill volumes.

3. It is not true they don't assimilate; a small portion, like this group that is protesting, may not because the are extremists, but most do.
4. London has a population of 15 million people. How many are in this group of protesters? Less than 50?
5. They are prostesting that Muslim owned shops sell alcohol. They are not asking for other shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. to stop selling alcohol.

That is correct. If you head out to Saudi Arabia, you will have a very hard time to find any liquor stores there. Unless you are staying in an international hotel, you cannot find any alcoholic beverages anyplace.

We also have Muslims within the U.S., however they don't go around blocking entire neighborhoods with their prayers. They also don't threaten fellow Muslims who drink alcohol or smoke for that matter. The difference is assimilation. The U.S. Muslims are assimilated for the most part, whereas in London for some reason they are not. That is the fault of the government. They should adopt a melting pot approach, so newcomers understand that they need to assimilate into the mainstream culture.

YOU do realize that posting these pictures and saying they reflect that Muslims are 'taking over the streets of London and Paris" is propaganda? They are in their own small neighborhoods. London and Paris are huge cities with millions of people. London has 15 million people. Not sure what size Paris is, but there are millions. The Arabic, Muslim neighborhoods are small; the percentage of people who live in them is miniscule compared to the size of the cities. I've been to both cities often and Muslims are not taking over.

Do you live in London? Have you even ever been there? They are assimilated, as much as in the US. What you are hearing, reading is propaganda, not truth. Don't be manipulated by propaganda. But, as it appears they are taking over those small neighborhoods, which still are part of London and Paris, and should remain English and French, not Muslim.
