"Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood hospitalized after apparent suicide attempt

Amber Portwood, one of the stars of MTV’s “Teen Mom,” is in the hospital after an apparent suicide attempt.

In a statement to Radar Online, police in Anderson, Ind., confirmed they were called to a residence where Portwood was located on Tuesday morning.

“According to the caller, Portwood was depressed and threatening to end her life,” the statement said. “The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.”

MTV said in a statement, “Our understanding is that Amber has been admitted to a local hospital, but we have not been able to confirm the accuracy of any reports being circulated and are waiting for further details. Our thoughts are with her and we hope to hear more soon.”

Portwood, 21, was first introduced to television viewers on the show “16 and Pregnant,” which documented the birth of her daughter, Leah. The tumultuous relationship between Portwood and her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley, including a particularly violent fight between the couple, played out on “Teen Mom.”

That fight landed the reality-TV star in legal trouble. In December, Portwood was formally charged with two felony counts of domestic battery, one felony count of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanor of domestic violence and battery.
