Russia recognizes west Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a surprise announcement on Thursday, obtained exclusively by The Jerusalem Post.

The announcement comes as US President Donald Trump's administration is agonizing over whether to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that would constitute recognizing west Jerusalem as the country's capital. No other country in the world recognizes any part of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads, “We reaffirm our commitment to the UN-approved principles for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, which include the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state. At the same time, we must state that in this context we view West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”

This is a sharp shift in Russian policy, which until now has formally held that Jerusalem should eventually be under a permanent international regime. The statement appears in English on the Russian Foreign Ministry's Russian web site.

While officials in Jerusalem interpreted this to mean that recognition of west Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will only come once east Jerusalem becomes the capital of a Palestinian state, The Jerusalem Post has learned that Moscow intends this recognition to go into effect immediately.

Perhaps Moscow is trying to get the jump on the US by announcing its recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel's capital before Trump moves the US embassy to Jerusalem.

Does Israel also
recognize east Jerusalem as Palestine's capital?

Certainly not. In fact, Israel does not recognize a state called Palestine.

This is the actual Russian Foreign Ministry statement: Foreign Ministry statement regarding Palestinian-Israeli settlement
As the Jerusalem Post article stated, officials in Jerusalem believe Russia is talking about the result of a final status agreement, but the Post claims to have been told Russia intends its recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel's capital to be effective immediately. In the next few days the Russian ambassador will meet with the Israeli foreign ministry and this will be cleared up.

The fake nationality of "Palestinian" will now have to find another fake capital in some camel kennel. There is only one Jerusalem; it must never be shared with nomadic desert bandits.

There is nothing nomadic about the Palestinians. They are the indigenous people of Palestine. Most are descendants of Jews that converted to Christianity after 380 AD when Christianity became the state religion of the Roman empire.

"Native Population almost wholly descended from Jews who had been forcibly converted to Christianity, and later Islam, not Arab in origin
In Palestine the "small" number of Arab invaders who had been imported by the Arabian conquerors were wiped out by disease. Thus the "myth" of the "Palestinian Arab" descending "from the Arab conquerors" appears to be factually incorrect for all but perhaps a few. "
