FEC Republicans Are Making Citizens United Even Worse | ThinkProgress

Last month the six FEC commissioners killed — on a 3-3 vote — a motion to begin consideration of Van Hollen’s suggestions. By law, the agency may have only three members of any political party. By tradition, the president chooses three commissioners and the other party’s Senate leader chooses three. The three Republican appointees — Commissioners Caroline Hunter, Donald McGahn II and Matthew Petersen — were the three “no” votes. The same trio also made headlines last month when they took the view that even coordination between Super PACs and candidates might not qualify as coordination between Super PACs and candidates.
The lawsuit is still pending.

Because of these loopholes, virtually none of the funders behind the Super PAC attack ads in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will be disclosed until well after the voters there have cast their ballots. And the funders behind 501(c)(4) attack ads may never be known.

So while it was the Supreme Court’s majority that opened the floodgates for corporate money in our elections, it is the deadlocked FEC that is keeping voters from even knowing where that money comes from.

Aren't 501(c)(4) non-profit organizations that must operate exclusively for the promotion of social welfare?

It's the Conservative mission statement.

Since Monarchy, Dictatorship, Oligarchy, Aristocracy, and maybe Theocracy (They are still trying for that one) seem to be out..Plutocracy is in!

The FEC has been a toothless, useless sham for a while now, the republicans appointed to the body have as their sole mission to make it unable to act in any way.

you last three posters dont cant even understand what was posted in this thread

The republicans kept the money secret guys.

They didnt want the American people to KNOW who was giving thesse large sums of money to whom.

The SCOTUS decided it that way but the republicans didnt want it disclosed.

I bet you still dont understand huh?

The Koch Brothers wrote stuff that is now appearing verbatim in several states.

The whole "Right to Work" thing is something they authored.

It is the Republican party power structure who is doing everyting they can to harm the American voter to give the power to the corporate owners in this country.

Its so blatent even a child could see it.

Just look at the comments from the right in this thread.

They dont even have any basis to deny it so they just attack me for passing along the cold hard facts.

Do you know what Citizen's United is about? It's not about corporation being able to donate money to candidates (By Federal Law, Corporations CAN NOT donate to political campaigns!!!). Rather it's about them spending their own money, independent of the candidate, and pay for and produce ads! Again all independent. Candidates are NOT allowed to direct them in any wa! If you say no to that, then where does it end? Newspapers can't have editorial sections? Newspapers can't endorse candidates? The Fairness Doctrine? Public funding campaigns? End to opinion newscasts?

It's a slippery slope that nutters like you are to short-sighted to see what it could lead to!

ALEC, these blindly partisan people probably have no idea what that is.

My Totalitarian Friend is complaining about the fly in his soup again?

Rest easy , I'm for transparency here too. Unlike TM and Yourself, I'm not big on Secrecy on Either side. See the difference? By the way, this is not part of the Mission Statement, as you claim.

Tell us all how its a great American tradition to NOT ALLOW the people to know the names of the people who are donating HUGE sums of money into the campaign cycle?
