The show "Criminal Minds" has been running on CBS for 13 years and anybody who doesn't believe this show has resulted in countless abductions of young women, hasn't watched it. An original cast member, Mandy Patinkin (now on "Homeland"), quit the show over it's fascination with female abduction, torture, and murder. Yet, it continues coming up with novel ways to do it. My theory is who got Mollie got the idea from this fucked up TV show.

Ted Bundy's move was to limp around on crutches trying to get a package into his famous VW until a suitable young woman would offer her help. As soon as she turned her head, he'd clobber her, shove her into the car, and drive off to the countryside where he did what he did to them. I bet this is exactly what happened to Mollie....somebody tricked her into getting close enough to overpower her and took off with her. I don't think this is going to end well. :icon_cry:

Man charged with murder in disappearance of Iowa student
AUG. 21, 2018 -- Iowa officials charged a 24-year-old man with murder after finding what they believed to be the body of college student Mollie Tibbetts on Tuesday.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera faces one count of first-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Tibbetts, who disappeared July 18 after going out for a nightly run in Brooklyn, Iowa, said Rick Rahn, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation special agent in charge. Rahn said surveillance video helped investigators track down Rivera, who led them to the female body in a cornfield. "Through that we were able to identify a vehicle that we believe belonged to Mr. Rivera," Rahn said. "From that we were able to track his patterns and the routes that he took. We were also able to find Mollie running on this video and we were able to determine that he was one of the last ones to have seen Mollie running."

Rivera, an undocumented immigrant who is believed to have lived in the area for four to seven years, said he saw Tibbetts running and decided to follow her and run alongside her on the night of her disappearance. Rivera told investigators he chased Tibbetts after she grabbed her phone, said "I'm gonna call the police" and then ran away. He said he then "blacked out" and regained consciousness at an intersection outside Brooklyn. According to an affidavit, Rivera said he didn't realize he had Tibbetts' body in the trunk of his car until he drove to a field entrance and into a cornfield driveway, ABC News reported.

After seeing blood on the side of Tibbetts' head, Rivera said he dragged her body into the cornfield and left her in corn leaves. Rahn said an autopsy on Wednesday will provide details about the time and cause of Tibbetts' death, but couldn't provide other details regarding the case, including the motive. "I can just tell you that he followed her and seemed to be drawn to her on that particular day. For whatever reason he chose to abduct her," he said. Tibbetts' father, Rob Tibbetts, confirmed to Fox News the body belonged to his daughter.

She had been house-sitting for her boyfriend, Dalton Jack, in Brooklyn, about an hour east of Des Moines. Tibbetts' mother, Laura Calderwood, said her computer, wallet and driver's license were found at the home of Jack, who was cleared as a suspect. Her cellphone, Fitbit wristwatch and earbuds had not been recovered. The search for Tibbetts was extensive, and at one point led investigators to a pig farm in Guernsey, Iowa, about 11 miles away from Tibbetts' last sighting. An agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said last week authorities received more than 1,500 tips and conducted more than 500 interviews in the case.

You're not safe, even in rural America. My wife carries a Sig-Sauer p238 .380acp every day....it's a tiny little thing. Lots of people on this board carry tiny 380s, compact 9mms, 22 magnum mini revolvers. If you're interested, ask questions...there are resources here to help.

Firearms are the great equalizer, but they aren't magically going to save your life just by owning one. What they will do is increase your odds of surviving a life threatening attack.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, is in the US illegally, authorities say. Remains believed to be Ms Tibbetts' were earlier found in a cornfield near her hometown of Brooklyn. The 20-year-old University of Iowa student went missing on 18 July while dog-sitting at the home of her boyfriend and his brother. She was last seen by neighbours on a run. Her family reported her missing the next day when she did not arrive at work. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations special agent Rick Rahn said in a press conference Mr Rivera is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico.

Mr Rivera allegedly saw Ms Tibbetts running and followed her before he says he "blacked out". "I can't speak about the motive," Mr Rahn told reporters. "I can just tell you that it seemed that he followed her, seemed to be drawn to her on that particular day, for whatever reason he chose to abduct her." Mr Rahn said Mr Rivera was "very compliant" and willing to talk, and said that he led police to her body. An arrest warrant says Mr Rivera is charged with murder in the first degree. He would receive a mandatory life sentence if convicted.

Authorities were led to the body in the early hours of 21 August, in a cornfield in Poweshiek County - which includes Ms Tibbetts' Brooklyn hometown. The body had corn stalks placed on top of it, Mr Rahn told reporters. A surveillance video of Ms Tibbetts jogging, and of Mr Rivera's car, helped authorities track the suspect down, he said. Police received more than 4,000 tips during their 34-day investigation. Investigators had previously used social media and Fitbit data in an effort to trace her.

The University of Iowa student has been missing for more than a month

After the arrest, President Donald Trump told an audience at a rally in West Virginia the crime "should have never happened". "You heard about today with the illegal alien coming in very sadly from Mexico," he told the crowd. "And you saw what happened to that incredible, beautiful young woman." Mr Trump called on his fellow Republicans to sweep the midterm elections in November in order to strengthen immigration laws.

Both of Iowa's Republican senators urged Congress to pass a law requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take custody of any undocumented migrant who is charged with a crime that results in serious injury or death. "No family should ever have to endure such a tragedy, especially one that could have been prevented," said Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst. "Too many Iowans have been lost at the hands of criminals who broke our immigration laws. We cannot allow these tragedies to continue," they added. Republican Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said in a statement: "We are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community, and we will do all we can to bring justice to Mollie's killer."

Autopsy finds Iowa student died from 'sharp force injuries'
23 Aug.`18 – The Iowa college student who was allegedly abducted by a stranger while running last month in a small town was stabbed to death, investigators announced Thursday.

Preliminary autopsy results from the state medical examiner's office determined that 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts was the victim of a homicide who died from "multiple sharp force injuries," the Division of Criminal Investigation announced in a news release. State medical examiner Dennis Klein said in an interview that the finding means a sharp-edged or pointed object such as a knife was used to attack Tibbetts. He declined comment on the details of her injuries, and said that his office would hire consultants, including forensic anthropologists, to analyze her remains further and make additional findings.

The man charged with first-degree murder in Tibbetts' death, Cristhian Bahena Rivera, allegedly led investigators to her body early Tuesday in a cornfield outside of Brooklyn, Iowa, the town where the University of Iowa psychology major was last seen one month prior. While investigators were confident then that the body was that of Tibbetts, the autopsy definitively confirmed her identity. Prosecutors allege that Rivera abducted Tibbetts while she was out for an evening run in Brooklyn on July 18, killed her and disposed of her body in the secluded location.

A criminal complaint alleges that Rivera confessed during a lengthy interrogation that began Monday to following Tibbetts in his car, getting out on foot and chasing after her. Rivera told investigators that he panicked after Tibbetts threatened to call police on her cellphone, he blacked out and later came to when he was unloading her bloody body from the trunk of a car, it says. Rivera worked for the last four years at a dairy farm a few miles from where Tibbetts was last seen. He and Tibbetts have no known connections other than that Rivera allegedly told investigators that he saw her running previously. Investigators zeroed in on him as the suspect after obtaining footage from surveillance cameras showing a vehicle connected to him circling the area of Tibbetts' running route.

Earlier this week, investigators said they were uncertain how Tibbetts was killed or whether she was sexually assaulted. They've made no mention of recovering a knife or other weapon linked to the death. Rivera, a native of Mexico who is suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, made his initial court appearance Wednesday and is being jailed on a $5 million cash-only bond. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
