REPORT: JUDGE AND LAWYER COORDINATED RULING IN MAJOR CORRUPTION CASE
A judge presiding over hearings in a major corruption case asked to be removed from her duties after Channel 10 exposed that she had coordinated rulings with a government lawyer working the hearing, the Justice ministry said Sunday.
Judge Ronit Poznanski-Katz reportedly exchanged WhatsApp messages with the legal advisor of the Israel Securities Authority Eran Shahm-Shavit regarding how long to keep suspects in the "Bezeq affair" under arrest.
"We will ask for a few more days," wrote Shavit, "but you can give us two".
"I will have to look really, really, surprised," wrote the judge.
The suspects of the case include Telcom giant Bezeq's CEO Stella Handler, Bezeq major shareholder Shaul Alovich, his wife, Iris Alovich, son Or Alovich and Bezeq CEP's second-in-command Amikam Shorer, Channel 10 reports.

A statement from the Ministry of Justice:
The Attorney General and the State Attorney see with great severity the incident that was published this evening about the correspondence between an employee of the Securities Authority and the judge who discussed the detention proceedings in the affair.
The incident described is contrary to the basic principles of the prosecution.
This is an exceptional and unfortunate incident.
The Attorney General and the State Attorney ordered this evening, after consultation, and in coordination with the Head of the Securities Authority, to open a disciplinary investigation into the conduct of the Securities Authority employee. The investigation will be conducted by the Investigations Division of the Civil Service Commission.
The Attorney General and the State Attorney agreed with the Chairman of the Securities Authority that this worker will no longer deal with the case.
The worker informed the chairman of the Israel Securities Authority that he was on vacation immediately until the end of the investigation.
The Authority said that the investigation would be led by another attorney from the Investigations Department.
The hearings on the arrest of the suspects in the case will be referred to another judge, who will examine all the evidence gathered in the investigation.
