MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico’s government said on Saturday it would help Honduras create 20,000 jobs this year and support its coffee farmers as the two countries seek to curb migration to the United States that has created tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and his Honduran counterpart, Juan Orlando Hernandez, pledged to work together to lift prosperity in Central America, where poverty and violence have fueled an exodus of people north.

That migration has angered Trump, who has made border security a priority, and issued economic threats against Mexico and Central America if more is not done to contain the flows.

Speaking after the Honduran and Mexican leaders met in the eastern state of Veracruz, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said Lopez Obrador had given instructions to help Honduras create 20,000 jobs between now and December.

My initial reaction- perhaps the Mexican Government should be creating good jobs in their own country.

I think it’s because Central America has a lot of low hanging fruit for job growth. Or as I should say, low hanging coffee beans.

If the US created 200,000 jobs in Honduras would the Honduran illegals in the US go home? Seems both more cost effective and humane than building a wall.

Obama/Clinton created or preserved a lot of jobs in Honduras by selling out to mining in endorsing the wall street friendly coup over the progressive establishment by so quickly ratifying its corrupt "election".

The migration is not just lack of jobs. There has been a collapse of law and order in those countries. Mexico needs to control it's Southern Border first of all. If 20,000 new jobs are created that's fine but not likely to move the needle much on the problem. And Mexico's track record for doing what it says is abysmal.
