Memo to AOC: Only You Can Save the Government

It may seem audacious, even patronizing, for two moderate-ish Baby Boomers like us to be offering advice to you, the most influential leader of the Millennial left. But we come in peace, with a message we urge you to consider because, as Princess Leia said to Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope.

You and other progressive leaders have bold ideas for how government can help people and save the planet. The Green New Deal. Medicare for All. Free college. A massive investment in public housing. We aren’t in full agreement with that agenda, but that’s not our point. Our point is that to achieve your goals, you’re going to need a federal government as robust as your ideas. And right now, you don’t have it.

Instead, the government agencies you’ll need to carry out your policies are a disaster waiting to happen. Like the infrastructure you and others rightly say needs rebuilding, our federal bureaucracies are a patched-together mess that can barely handle the weight of the burdens already placed on them.

This is not your generation’s fault. It’s ours (though in fairness the two of us have long been sounding the alarm). For decades, leaders in Washington, led by conservatives but with acquiescence from liberals, have adopted an anti–civil servant mentality that has frozen the ranks of government workers while vastly expanding the role of private contractors. As a result, federal agencies have sunk deeper and deeper into dysfunction.

Someone needs to challenge that broken political mind-set. No one has a better track record of changing such political paradigms than you. This memo is our attempt to convince you to make rebuilding the federal bureaucracy one of your core issues—and, by extension, central to the agenda of the progressive left.

If you do, you’ll be able to highlight yet another sector of contemporary capitalism that is predatory and out of control: federal contracting. You’ll also create an opportunity to expand America’s unionized workforce by hiring
hundreds of thousands of civil servants—jobs that by all rights should go to your generation of young Americans. And you’ll provide political space for Joe Biden to make needed reforms that can advance policies you and he agree on.

But if you don’t, your policy vision for a better America will be deeply threatened, and possibly even doomed.

^^^^^^^^^^^^
This statement, is pretty damn insane and runs counter to the way government is supposed to work PERIOD. The purpose of the government is not to follow the ideas of individual congress people, or Senators. Check and Balances are in place exactly to counter people like AOC and the damage they would wreak on the entire world. She's cute and all, but in the end... the bigger her head gets the more it becomes like a black hole in space, with a deadly gravitational pull that bends and twists logic, common sense and rational perception, to the point they can never escape and then dissapear completely before the whole damn thing explodes.
Trust me, you don't want to be there.

Is your habitual lying a recent Trump emulation, or is it how you were raised?

This statement, is pretty damn insane and runs counter to the way government is supposed to work PERIOD.
You're missing the point: efficiency, slimmed down, consolidated, effective, faster moving when needed, and did I mention efficiency?

Efficiency? faster moving when needed? Then WHO decides moving faster is needed? Democrats like AOC?

A certain amount of gridlock is important to keep. It assures we are not moving too quickly in the wrong direction.

This is guaranteed. Every government on the face of the earth, whether its Communist, Socialist, Democratic or a Democratic Republic WILL eventually be corrupt. Of that there is no doubt.
The Founding fathers, while imperfect themselves recognized this, after all they were quite aware of the long history of Europe and knew how deceit and corruption can strangle any system.
Checks and balances... moving slowly along is vital. When you have these radicals always presenting an Earth Ending crisis... that needs to be addressed, assure yourself they are doing this to push their social and governemnet agendas. They will always produce a crisis that involves throwing caution to the wind.
When you have Democrats for instance threatening to stack the Supreme Court... that is a dangerous and direct threat to the separation of powers. They are threatening to make sure the SC will no longer be impartial but be intimidated and serve their masters in the Senate...
Sure... if the SC and Congress work TOGETHER to get things done... we can have so much progress right???

I say no, thats wrong. The purpose of the SC is solely to decide on cases but not to be activist, and when Congress feels they can alter the format of the SC to secure the outcomes they want to have, the people are no longer protected and we are veering towards a rogue Government.

Im sorry, but the woman has proven nothing, other than that she has terrible judgement.
On one hand when 50 people are shot in one Chicago weekend, she says not to give into the
hysteria, dont pay to much attention to the numbers.

yet, when it comes to police officers who have not even shot that many unarmed African Americans in an entire year... wilst there are millions of interactions with law enforcement,
Then she is totally down with the hysteria... and willing to point out how bad America is and how bad cops are.

It would sure be great if she was consistent one way or another.

You have to forgive syn.

She promotes what she likes to hear, and ignores what doesn't.
