Medicare runs out of $ in 6 years

Now, does anyone want to add in why Medicare's long-run fiscal picture looks so bad?
Because politicians and bureaucrats are entirely incapable of running anything.

Except that administrative and total costs for Medicare are much lower than those of private insurers.

But hey, why pay attention to details when you can make broad sweeping statements?
Good grief, Charlie Brown!....Not that stinky stale chestnut again!

Maybe because Medicare/Medicaid don't have to advertise (a part of administrative costs)?

Also, administrative costs aren't the only item on the accounts payable side of the ledger.

Really.....Get some new talking points, m'kay?

When you have medicare Advantage form say Humana. The govt still collects your medicare payment and then gives it to Humana. and you pay more on top of that for most Advantage plans.
And you tend to be restricted to Humana's Dr list and such.

Medicare is something that never should have been instituted. But it was and we are now stuck with it.
No we are not. We continue to have it forced upon us by politicians who would rather feather their own nest than do what is best for the nation.
End Social Security - elderly survived before ti was instituted, they can do so again.
End Medicare and Medicaid - people had medical care before those systems came along.

Government purchasing subsidies raise prices - the high cost of medical care is heavily influenced by the availability of government money. Those goods and services purchased by the elderly are also inflated, though it is less obvious for the money they receive goes to diverse products.

LOL, you're throwing out the "Government can't run anything talking point" and then you're berating me for my talking point?

Had to go tit for tat on that one.

Wow, that's cold.

But hey, weren't you the guy that wanted Texas to secede and then kick out all the old people in the other thread?

Name one of your worshiped socialistic welfare state do-gooder programs that has come in under projected costs and delivered more than promised....Just one.

Bringing democracy to Iraq?

Logic is like that.
But I suppose a treasonous left wing conspirator like yourself is quite happy to see the US self destruct over bills from Medicare and Social Security which add nothing to our ability to resist a violent left wing takeover.

The entire system is a Ponzi scheme.
I pay 13K a year, probably over 300K for the last 40 years just into my "account", into it plus corporate matching contributions for others.
And if I die the day before I start to draw any of it my heirs get ZERO.
That 300K probably would have grown to over a million bucks.
Government. It sucks.
Medicare isn't Social Security. Just need to point that out to you. I think you are posting to the wrong program.

Now, does anyone want to add in why Medicare's long-run fiscal picture looks so bad?

Because people are living so much longer, which is partially due to the fact that they get so much more medical care in their old age?

Yep, because I don't think our genetics are improving.

Plus SS helps as well.
Rough on oldsters to have to mow yards to eat.
So evolution really doesn't work, eh?

Medicare

The only reason it's having trouble is from outside circumstances, not from issues within the program.

Social Security

It does everything it promises to do without any problem. Usually the investments have exceeded expectations.
The problems SS ran into were again external:
1) various Republican administrations stealing money from it to pay for other programs and
2) the increasing number of old people in the country.

Both programs however come in under projected costs, per person, in doing what they are supposed to do, when one includes dividends on investments in the case of SS.

sounds like a lot of younger republicans are volunteering to care for their parents in their old age.

Good for them that is personal responsibility.

Change moms diaper and turn her every 30 minutes.

And don't forget to put a cath in dad.

I am not, which is why I have been continuously recommending raising the retirement age to at least 75 for both programs.

I guess you'd prefer age-based-genocide. To each their own I guess....

You nailed it there!

I also believe medicare spends to much on the last year of life for the terminal & elderly. That year is usually miserable for the patient & cost more than the healthcare for their entire life up untill that last year. We do not need a 2,000 page comminust bill that no one will read. We should cut medicare in half & give the needy the most basic coverage.
