Medical Malpractice Reform Savings would be Small, CBO Report says

It's only $11B, just a simple rounding error anymore. Republican, Democrat, it doesn't matter none of them seem to give a fuck about the debt they're saddling us with.
That's right, both parties care only about themselves, all of us have to either get with the program of fuck off.

I didn't frame anything...all I did was show you that the CBO saying 11 billion dollars in savings is not worth the effort. What kind of bullshit is that? 11 billion dollars would buy a lot of MRAP's for our troops in harms way right now.

.

So would the 12 BILLION A MONTH we've been spending for 6 years for the needless debacle in Iraq.
Although we did manage to give the Iraqis the opportunity to write a new Constitution, in which they declared that healthcare is a right and the State is obligated to ensure that right.

Ironically...

Medical malpractice reform savings would be small, report says -- latimes.com

"
Reporting from Washington - Medical malpractice reform is unlikely to cut healthcare spending significantly, the Congressional Budget Office reported Friday."

"Enacting a cap on pain-and-suffering and punitive damages, changing liability laws and tightening the statute of limitations on malpractice claims would lower total healthcare spending by about one-half of 1% each year -- $11 billion at the current level -- according to an estimate by the nonpartisan agency
"

On Sunday, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) blasted Democrats for blocking attempts to reform malpractice laws. "Almost everybody agrees that we can save between $100 billion and $200 billion if we had effective medical malpractice reform," he said

This is the first Congressional Budget Office report to put a price tag on so-called defensive medicine, procedures and tests that stave off the threat of lawsuits but may not improve patient health. The agency found that reducing those measures through malpractice reform would lower healthcare spending by three-tenths of 1%.

Alright Republicans, Plan A turned out to be total shit. Medical Malpractice is seemingly going to solve nothing. (Just like I said a couple weeks ago).

So what's Plan B?

You know 11 billion may not sound like a lot of money to some folks, but 11 billion is more than just chump change to me. Senator Hatch stated it's more like 54 billion a year. WITHOUT TORT REFORM, there will be NO cost controls on health care. There is nothing that makes me angrier than to read B.S like this, 11 billion dollars IS 11 billion dollars and IT'S TAX PAYER MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a place to start in the reduction of costs, yet SINCE IT'S ONLY 11 BILLION it's not worth going after. Any wonder why congress has an approval rating in the low 20"s, it's bull shit like this.

The CBO is notorious for using static scoring in its calculations. That means they assume people will behave exactly the same way even if tax laws and other incentives are changed.
We don't know what the overall effect of tort reform will be. States that have tried it, like TX and MS, have seen health care costs go down, with better access to physicians.
But even if not a single penny were saved, tort reform is important simply for justice. Currently anyone with a sympathetic enough story and a sharp lawyer can get awards that are staggering, out of all proportion to whatever actual damage they may have suffered--if any. No wonder lawyers "venue shop" for sympathetic juries and judges. Getting rid of "jackpot justice" will go some small way to helping restore credibility in the legal system. The savings are a big bonus.

They are a huge bonus and a huge savings, just ask your physician, they will tell you.

hey Maple, maybe if they get rid of the 2% of the bad docs that cause most of the lawsuits, what would the saving be and the lawyers would starve to death! never happen with docs policing their own , ask your physician
