    Plamegate's Real Liar
By Max Boot, Los Angeles Times
    November 2, 2005

'Scooter" Libby's indictment was not exactly good news for the White House, but it could have been a lot worse. Feverish speculation had been building that Karl Rove would soon be "frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs," as Valerie Plame's bombastic hubby, Joe Wilson, had hoped. Or even that Dick Cheney would have to resign.

But with his investigation all but over, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has found no criminal conspiracy and no violations of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act, which makes it a crime in some circumstances to disclose the names of undercover CIA operatives. Among other problems, Plame doesn't seem to fit the act's definition of a "covert agent" — someone who "has within the last five years served outside the United States." By 2003, Plame had apparently been working in Langley, Va., for at least six years, which means that, mystery of mysteries, the vice president's chief of staff was indicted for covering up something that wasn't a crime.

Making the best of a weak hand, Democrats argued that the case was not about petty-ante perjury but, as Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid put it, "about how the Bush White House manufactured and manipulated intelligence in order to bolster its case for the war in Iraq and to discredit anyone who dared to challenge the president." The problem here is that the one undisputed liar in this whole sordid affair doesn't work for the administration. In his attempts to turn his wife into an antiwar martyr, Joseph C. Wilson IV has retailed more whoppers than Burger King.

Yeah very wishful thinking considering for a crime to go all the way up to the Oval office there needs to be a crime in the first place.

Are Democrats so unable to get their agenda passed through the election process that they have to start prosecuting Republicans for crimes that don't occur? I mean first Delay, now Libby. We all know they still want Cheney, Rove, and Frist. The problem Democrats seem to have is that they haven't committed any crimes!

Does any Democrat have any sort of theory why Libby would have lied to cover up a crime that didn't occur?

And of course we can't forget the Eternal Double Standard Democrats have. When Clinton perjured, obstracted justice, drafted false affidavits, and convinced others to lie on his behalf to protect him from a sexual assault suit, (All of which are undisputed), Democrats defend him tooth and nail trying to act as Clinton's violation of the law was some huge right wing conspiracy. Yet, while there still hasnt been shown any substantial evidence that Libby lied about anything, but is only alleged to have lied to cover up a crime that didnt happen and Democrats something seem to think this is an offense that Bush can be impeached on. I mean come on people. Atleast Republicans have no problem saying that if Libby is is guilty of anything he will be punished according to the law. Be consistant for crying out loud.

I heard the funniest defense for Clinton's sexual acts on Hannity yesterday from a random lib caller. She said that Clinton might have had time to catch Osama Bin Laden and stop the terrorists if the Republicans would have stopped hounding him on his sex life. :rotflmao:

You who already convicted Libby better watch out for what may come out of this trial. Andrea Mitchell, noted liberal media person, stated some time ago that it was "common knowledge" that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA. Wait until she gets put on the witness stand, probaly along with many more. Forget her neighbors and what they may or may not have known. If the elite media knew about it that is all that matters. This all translates into NO CRIME, therefore how does one lie about something that did not happen?

I highly doubt the investigation itno the sexual harassment charges Clinton faced really distracted him from catching Osama when all he had to do was say yes when Osama was offered.
