Light and matter mixed in a golden nanopore room temperature plasmonic nanocavity traps

lighttrap.jpeg

Scientists have mixed a molecule with light between gold particles, creating a new way to manipulate the physical and chemical properties of matter. Light and matter are usually separate and have distinct properties. However, molecules of matter can emit particles of light called photons. Normally, emitted photons leave the molecule and...

I believe there's a lot more to be learned and humanity one day could do a lot of what it now considers impossible.

Solid state physics innovation just never ends. What is next? Asimovs positronic brain?

Maybe ;) I'd like to see anti-gravity, warp drive and classical teleportation like in star trek.

Would be interesting to see how quickly a positroic brain would figure out Socialism blows

Well, seeing that pure capitalism is why big corporate been outsourcing our work to other countries and importing cheap labor. Well, both pure socialism and capitalism really does blow. Common sense moderate economics and regulations certainly don't!

Whole New Experiments
Strong coupling has been achieved before, but it has previously required extreme cooling. This is the first time strong coupling with a single molecule has been achieved at room temperature, making the process “chemically easy to access” according to Professor Hess.

Next Big Future: Light and matter mixed in a golden nanopore room temperature plasmonic nanocavity traps

Damned interesting advance. Thank you, Mathew for posting it. A whole bunch of things come to mind when you start talking of effects we see at temperatures in the single digits Kelvin, occurring at room temperatures. Not the least of which is superconductivity. Damn, if only I could live another century. So much is being learned about basic physics right now.
