While there are Liberals who are simply communist America haters, there are also the sort of anti-war folks we used to see as well-meaning....'liberals.'

January 9,1941: American folksinger and political activist Joan Baez, was born. Baez, who was at the forefront of the 1960s folk music revival, was born in Staten Island, New York on this date.

Here is the juxtaposition with the other sort of Liberal, the sort in charge of the Democrat Party today:

1. "Jane Fonda was one of those opponents of the Vietnam War for whom no amount of sympathy for America’s communist enemy was too much. This daughter of privilege traveled to Hanoi, and, in obedience to the wishes of her North Vietnamese hosts, heaped scorn on the notion that American POW’s were being mistreated. She posed gaily peering through the sight of an anti-aircraft gun (presumably prepared to fire on American planes), and made propaganda radio broadcasts. It is difficult to imagine what more she could have done to qualify as a traitor. "
Charen, “Useful Idiots,” p. 46.

2. In 1979, Humanitas, the organization of anti-war activist Joan Baez, purchased a newspaper ad that ran in five large circulation dailies, called “An Open Letter to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” which ran in part: “Thousands of innocent Vietnamese, many of whose only “crimes” are those of conscience, are being arrested, detained and tortured in prison and re-education camps… The jails are overflowing with thousands upon thousands of “detainees”… People disappear and never return… People are used as human mine detectors, clearing live mine fields with their hands and feet. For many, life is hell and death is prayed for. With tragic irony, the cruelty, violence and oppression practiced by foreign powers in your country for more than a century continue today under the present regime.
It was an abiding commitment to fundamental principles of human dignity, freedom and self-determination that motivated so many Americans to oppose the government of South Vietnam and our country's participation in the war. It is that same commitment that compels us to speak out against your brutal disregard of human rights. As in the 60s, we raise our voices now so that your people may live.

3. Baez mailed the letter to 350 anti-war activists. Among those who refused to sign was Jane Fonda. “Your name would mean much more than any other,” she told Fonda, in a long letter.
Fonda wrote that the add would lend credence to those who believe “that Communism is worse than death…”
Washington Post, Lynn Darling, “Joan Baez at 38,” June 29, 1979

For Jane Fonda........."communism forever."

Of course, this week we saw the Jane Fonda Democrat Party hand-wringing over the death of a terrorist....

And, speaking of Liberals and their birthdays, it is also the birthday for another Fascist....er, Liberal.

This one belonged in the Liberal disguise called 'Feminism.'

Born January 9th, 1908: Simone de Beauvoir, French writer and feminist who gave a literary transcription to the themes of existentialism, was born in Paris.

Logical as it seems that women should be prepared for events such as divorce and widowhood, marriage and family may reduce opportunities for outside work or education. But the solution, according to Simone de Beauvoir in an interview with Betty Friedan is “No woman should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one.”
“Sex, Society, and the Female Dilemma,” Saturday Review, June 14, 1975, p. 18.

Like all totalitarian movements, the goal is not to give more freedom, but to take away choice.

Any posters proud to be Liberals, and stand with Jane Fonda and Simone de Beauvoir????

Speak up.

I have yet to find a poster here who self-describes as liberal who has ever read a single thing by any of the great liberal political philosophers. Most have never heard of John Stuart Mill or John Rawls, and some have even dismissed them reflexively when I brought them up.

These people are not liberals, but leftists, and should be referred to as such. Instead of understanding liberal principles and applying these principles to their views, they see politics only as a tribe they have joined, and all they concern themselves with is conforming to the groupthink of their tribe. They are fundamentalists rather than thinking individuals, as they never ask questions, they never analyze, they never apply principles, and all they do is babble in unison.

They are nearly ALL Jane Fondas these days.
