Less than 30% think Republican congress will be more productive

Will Republican congress be more productive?

  • Yes

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    9
  • Poll closed .
And all the while it was the Democrat Reid who was holding everything up. Why do you not mention that ole luddy? A little bit of honesty go's a lot further than your constant silliness.

Why waste the Senate's time on the extreme right's gazzilion failed bills to "repeal Obamacare"? None of them would have even made it past cloture. Reid pushed all of the House bills that were worthwhile and likely to pass and screened out the dross.

What's wrong with the republicans is the fact that they only have only one goal; cut, slash and burn. You can't lead a first or even a second world country this way.

A good party would seek to add jobs and rebuild our place in science and education. Slashing isn't going to do any of this.

they only have only one goal; cut, slash and burn.

If it means cutting, slashing and burning liberal bad ideas, that is a great goal.

Depends on what ideas you're talking about...Removing tens of millions of people on food stamps and ssd? Certainly, but killing the noaa, usgs and fda = dumb.

Define productive.

I would think beneficial to the country and not just to the 1% is a good definition of productive when it comes to Congress.

So we agree, sealing the border and deporting 10 million or so illegals would be productive.

I'm not sure that it would be beneficial to the country.....most Americans won't do some of the jobs some of these people are willing to do.....and for so little. I'm sure many rich think they are beneficial, too, help made them rich.

Completely off-topic. The vomitous drivel you wrote has nothing to do with the poll being discussed at the link in the OP. Instead of attacking a member, learn to read like the rest of the adults in the room.

I commented very specifically on the polling information from the OP in a posting above this one.

In the past, the Republicans have voted against any legislation that would result in or address in any way, jobs, economy, immigration, vets' jobs, vets on food stamps, vets' housing, the elderly, etc etc etc etc.

I recently wrote my own R senator and got a letter back that said he had voted on naming a frikken bridge.

So far, not one RW has said they do believe the Republican congress will be more productive. No, not obstruct as Todd Patriot said but actually doing their job.

Very telling that no one has voted "yes" in the poll. Is this what we expect from the Repubs?

C'mon, surely you on the right can say what you expect the Republican majority to actually accomplish ... ?

Well, that ought to tell you something.....most conservatives here are hoping that we get the same from the Republicans in Congress....which is nothing......that's their MO!

If it don't help the rich get richer.....ain't gonna happen........:D

Over 300 bills were ultra right wing? C'mon, even you can't possibly believe that horse shit.

No, it's not off topic. It was part and parcel of the "unproductive Congress" that the progressives loved to trot out and scream "see, the Repubs are evil!" It wasn't one sided at all. It was very much a two party problem, with BOTH parties being equal opportunity idiots.

And you never fail to disappoint. I must say.

How about reading up what those bills were actually all about?

Boehner 8217 s 8216 Bipartisan 8217 Bunk

The list contains dozens of ceremonial or parochial bills — including 31 bills to name or rename post offices or federal buildings, at least nine bills to authorize a study, such as whether Mill Springs Battlefield in Kentucky should be included in the National Park System, and at least 13 that deal with federal land (transferring or exchanging, or expanding boundaries, for example). There are also two bills to strike commemorative coins, and a thirdto award a gold medal to golfer Jack Nicklaus.

We also found 21 bills that actually became law through other vehicles, including 10 appropriations bills that became part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014.

The list also contains five concurrent resolutions, which are nonbinding and do not go to the president, and two bills (HR 4250 and HR 5161) that had Senate-approved versions waiting for action in the House.

We spent way too much time poring through the list, but the examples above add up to 84 bills and resolutions that either shouldn’t be on the list or would have little or no impact on the course of the nation.

We do not doubt that some of the 387 bills on McCarthy’s list are substantive and that some of the 46 bills on Boehner’s list may help the economy. But any suggestion that there are 387 bills being ignored that could “grow our economy” or even would “help the country” is an exaggeration, and so is the speaker’s statement that “almost all” of the 46 “jobs bills” are bipartisan.

Are you saying that Reid should have wasted the Senate's time on nonsense like renaming post offices and commemorative coins?

Actually that mischaracterization is a gross distortion.

Boehner 8217 s 8216 Bipartisan 8217 Bunk

Despite Republican complaints that Reid is the cause of gridlock, the Washington Post in August did an analysis of the past 20 congressional terms and found that the number of House-approved bills awaiting action in the Senate this session isn’t that unusual.

“In 11 of the past 19 Congresses — more than half — more than 300 bills were waiting for Senate action by the time the Congress completed its work,” Philip Bump wrote.

In fact, as Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler noted, the biggest backlog occurred in the 110th Congress in 2007-2008, when the Senate failed to act on more than 700 bills. And that was when the Democrats controlled both chambers.

GovTrack — a nonpartisan website that tracks legislation — also did an analysis and found that the percentage of Senate bills being ignored by the House isn’t that much better. It found that the Senate has passed 124 House bills, or 26 percent of all House bills, while the House has passed 40 Senate bills, or 37 percent.

Boehner was ignoring the Senate bills on his desk and the actual backlog of bills was by no means uncommon. In fact it was pretty typical of more than 50% of all Congresses.

Not at all. Bu there were over 300 Bills that Reid held up. I can guarantee you that not all Bills were stupid. He held them up because he wanted to. Just like when Congress shut down and Obama pissed a hissy fit and SPENT money to close down Parks that were normally open 24/7. They did it because they are assholes, not because it was the right thing to do.

Do you believe the Republican majority will be more productive?

Thanks.

Yes, it is. Your question makes the ASSUMPTION that because there was Dem control of the Senate the Repubs intentionally gummed up the works, when the reality was it was both parties in the wrong. Thus your question is on its face dishonest.

Really? That asshole closed memorials all over the globe. I had a friend who was on his last cruise (he died a month after getting back) who wished to visit the memorial on Iwo Jima (where he had fought during the war, and he was denied along with everyone else. It is a 24/7 memorial that Obama closed at an expense of over 100,000 dollars, just to show he was the "BIG MAN".

"A group of 92 Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight Veterans refused to let a government shutdown stop them from entering the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., this morning.

Though the memorial was technically closed due to the government shutdown that went into effect early this morning, they managed to enter the memorial and tour the site.

Reps. Steve King, R-Iowa, and Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said in interviews that the gates were opened for the veterans to access the memorial.

The vets were taking part in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight that was originally established in 2011 to help fly the state's WWII veterans to Washington D.C., free of charge, and provide tours so that they may see the memorials dedicated to honor their service."
