Leftists Like Sex Offenders

Sen. Tom Coburn has released his list of amendments to the reconciliation bill. Democrats will try to defeat all the amendments, if possible, to avoid another vote in the House.

But Republicans will make that goal as tough as possible.

So the first amendment Coburn is offering is pretty tough, politically, to disagree with.

It would ban the government from covering erectile dysfunction medication for sex offenders who get their insurance on the exchanges.

While banning the coverage of those drugs would save money, it would also create new policy. And under budget rules, would probably need 60 votes instead of the 51 usually required during budget reconciliation.

Either way, Democrats will probably have to plug their noses and vote against the amendment. Then they’ll be on record with the vote.

You can imagine the campaign commercial… cue scary music… “Politician X wants to give Viagra to sex offenders…”

The full list of Coburn’s amendments (he’s only one Senator, expect many many more) is below, as released by his office:

1. No Erectile Dysfunction Drugs To Sex Offenders – This amendment would enact recommendations from the Government Accountability Office to stop fraudulent payments for prescription drugs prescribed by dead providers or, to dead patients. This amendment also prohibits coverage of Viagra and other ED medications to convicted child molesters, rapists, and sex offenders, and prohibits coverage of abortion drugs. (Note: the creation of exchanges could allow sex offenders to receive taxpayer-funded Viagra and other ED drugs unless Congress expressly prohibits this action – see additional background attached)

Health Reform and Viagra for Sex Offenders? - The Note

Why didn't Coburn put this up to a vote in the original bill/debate?
Why don't he intruduce a stand alone bill?

Because all he has in mind is to wreck any kind of Health reform..Too bad Senator, It's already been signed, sealed and delivered..All you're holding up is the fixes to those "Backroom deals" you all claim to hate.

I don't think Viagra should be covered by insurance, period.

But it's funny that Republicans are using this week to suggest stupid laws so they have campaign commercials in the fall.

Republicans - the party that puts their party before America.
That would be the Democrats. They will pay for ignoring the will of the people...unless Obama declares a dictatorship and crowns himself Emperor before we get his sorry ass out of office.

It's a sneaky ploy by Cons .. to change the bill in anyway would send it back to congress.
...as was the method used by the Dems to pass the bill through the house.

You have a strange sense of judgment.

The dems aren't ignorant. They are ignoring. Their STUPIDITY will backfire on them in November...for many Novembers to come.

Because liberals right laws.

As I understand it, if a reconcilliation bill is amended in any way that changes policy, the bill can no longer be approved with 51 votes. Both sides know this. It was the whole point of doing this through reconcilliation. The GOP knows only amendments about budgets and not programs has even a snow ball chance in hell of passing. This is political theater, plain and simple. As has been the behavior of the GOP during this entire administration and unfortunately some of our fellow citizens have bought it hook, line, and sinker.
Political theatrics are personified by Nancy Pelosi...turn out the lights, turn off the mic, lock them out of the backroom...what a hypocritical comment you make.

Do you even know what 'hypocritical' means? Apparently not. For if you did, you wouldn't have accused my comments of being that, because they are not. They are the truth about the GOP in these circumstances and under this administration. They have lived for political theather since January 20, 2009.

You know that's not true. Most leftists don't like Republicans no matter what they do.

Health Reform and Viagra for Sex Offenders? - The Note

Since we don't vote for Republicans, I guess we really don't like sex offenders. About a hundred more names on the list.

Yes, there is a similiar list of Democrats. But I have not seen anyone else posting such silly drivel as Republicans like sex offenders.

The Repubs are trying anything to delay the inevitable.

Rush Limbaugh reported this morning that Senate Democrats voted to a provide funds for sex predators to buy Viagra. The truth is, if anyone is interested, the amendment no. 3556 was tabled. There was no vote on the actual amendment.

If the facts don’t support your premises, then change the facts. If there are no facts, make them up.

well asswipe,, since the amendment tabled was to prevent the provision of viagra to sex offenders,, and was tabled by demoncwats then it stands to reason the demoncwats are not in favor of witholding viagra from sex offenders.. they will in fact provide it.

i cant believe people are parroting this crap.

No, tabling a motion means you are not going to vote on it at this time. It does not mean you are voting either for or against the motion. This amendment and a number of others were designed to trap the democrats. If they voted for the amendment, it would delay implementation of the healthcare bill. If they voted against it, they would be supporting the sex predators. So they tabled the motion. The Republicans, not to be out done, simply lied and said they voted against the amendment.

If I understand this correctly, as it stands right now . . . . sex offenders can get Viagra and the Dems didn't do anything to stop it?

Actually, it stands to reason that adding that amendment would violate Senate reconcilliation rules. Viagra for sex offenders will be handled under a separate bill. Watch. It's a good thing the Dems are as dumb as the GOP sheeple.

Yep, the Dems did not do anything to stop sex offenders from getting Viagra. I have read a lot of silly legislation but this one takes the cake. Sex offenders don’t have a problem becoming aroused with the person they are offending so why would they need it? Access to Viagra will not change whether or not a person will commit such a crime.

And you know this because?

Because there is no scientific evidence that denying sex enhancing drugs will have any effect on sex crimes. However, there is lots that can be done to reduce the number of sex crimes. Rape kits sit for years without being processed because there are no funds available. Level 3 sex offenders are dumped on the streets because we don't have room for them in our prisons. This amendment would do nothing but delay affordable healthcare to millions of people.

You canalways count on the lowest of the low from the Good Old GOP. Simple solution is to deny the amendment and bring it back up later as a seperate bill. This will keep it from becoming a campaign issue in the fall, it would appear to me.
