Well...this is great news...especially as we have to worry about nut job countries like Iran and North Korea getting nuke missiles...

Light 'em up: Laser weapon now deployed on Navy ship in Persian Gulf - Hot Air

As the next generation of combat lasers scales up in power and targeting systems improve in precision, taking down incoming North Korean ICBMs will be a turkey shoot. It’ll be a high-stakes version of Missile Command. And surely technology will end up automating the process further, with just one human eventually needed to okay firing at computer-selected targets.

Any military tech guys out there? What about deploying these against other ships....? Other enemy aircraft?

Does this change the nature of warfare the way the aircraft carrier did?

And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all"

Lasers?????

What do you think a gigawatt, or more, of highly focused RF will do to the electronics in a missile or aircraft?

:)

HINT: Put your smart phone while on in your microwave and turn it on.

lsd?

The problem with laser weapons on ships is that they are limited in range by the curvature of the Earth. They cannot fire past the horizon like large artillery and aircraft can do.

But as point defense systems, they are superb.

Rail guns will be the future offensive weapon at sea.
