Krokodil, The Flesh-Eating Street Drug That Rots Skin From Inside-Out, Expands To Illinois

It's called "the most horrible drug in the world" -- and it's come to Illinois.

Dr. Abhin Singala, a specialist at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in the Chicago suburb of Joliet, said he's treating three people who took "krokodil," a cheap heroin knockoff from Russia known to cause such extreme gangrene and abscesses that a user's muscles, tendons and bones can become exposed.

“If you want to kill yourself, this is the way to do it,” Singla said according to the Sun-Times.

Krokodil Cases Being Investigated: DEA 'Very Concerned' Over Reports Of Flesh-Eating Drug (UPDATE)

The drug is made by boiling down codeine tablets with substances like gasoline, paint thinner or lighter fluid. It reportedly gives a high similar to heroin, but at a fraction of the cost. Once injected, the impurities in the concoction lead to extensive tissue damage, which causes flesh to rot away.

The drug gets its name from the green, scaly sores that users often develop. Horrific photos of the drug's side effects have circulated on the Internet.

Although krokodil first took hold in Russia, where hundreds of thousands of users were reported in 2010, the drug has apparently made landfall in the United States.

Well, at least there's some good news for the Putin worshipers who want to move to Russia.

Seriously, this is horrible beyond words.
