They had or have millions of dollars with which they recruited fellow Jihadists at heart from all around the world. Your analysis is true from the eighth century until the discovery of oil in the Middle East, and to America's help in teaching these Barbarians how to produce it.

So the old school solution: Just look the other way when they knock off hundreds on our own soil. Ill bet you that everyone in that club had the same attitude.

That's why we have two major groups, the liberals and conservatives. Let the conservatives police the borders and set up minimal govt for security around established turf. Then everyone can enjoy liberal free choice to pursue the beliefs and programs within that safe structure. But do it yourself, don't impose on others who don't want to pay for your system, and keep federal govt. out of private business. We need both internal and external systems, so why not let leaders and parties take charge of areas they serve best and leave the rest to other experts. Why compete to run the whole school by micromanagement and bureaucratic red tape, when each dept. needs to focus on their field of study and expertise and let others do their jobs!

Of course that would assume that we're not fractured internally and willing to do something about ending this horror show. The roman empire suffered the same fate through internal cracks near the end of their reign.

We still have our Christian base that uses age old scripture to check against abuses of the church, and our Constitutional base to check corrupt govt.

We have a republic if we can keep it -- from forced of greed for power that have always divided and torn down false ways of man and sought to establish the truth of God. The true laws alone are stable and prevail, so we always have had to invoke and build on that rock.
