Just watched a Religious panel discussion on this election. Very interesting.

Why the majority of evangelicals vote for Trump.

Other Christian religions are split.

The majority of Catholics vote for Hillary Clinton.

There was a very interesting discussion with a quite of a Bible Verse I never heard before:

Contextual Overview
1Doom to you who legislate evil, who make laws that make victims-- 2Laws that make misery for the poor, that rob my destitute people of dignity, Exploiting defenseless widows, taking advantage of homeless children. 3What will you have to say on Judgment Day, when Doomsday arrives out of the blue? Who will you get to help you? What good will your money do you?

Isaiah 10:1 - MSG - Doom to you who legislate evil, who...

Isaiah 10:1 Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,

Occupy the Bible: What Jesus Really Said (and Did) About Money and Power

This book is free on line.

Remember when Paul Ryan came out with his budget that crushed the poor and gave tax breaks to the wealthy and then insisted his budget was guided by his Catholic faith. And then the Bishops rose up and condemned his budget?

The above link goes right to that section of the book. As well as Ryan's fascination with Ayn Rand.

The bottom line is that it seems that the evangelicals that support Trump stop at abortion and applaud tax cuts for the rich. They seem to have very little interest in the poor, in health care, in fact, very little interest in what Jesus espoused.

So can you seriously support someone like Trump who scams people, who is a serial adulterer, whose says he will give huge tax cuts to the rich? No mention of helping poor people lift themselves up. No mention of helping children or families. Only some vague bring jobs back but abolish the minimum wage.

It was suggested these evangelicals yearn for a return to the 1950's.

What think you?

Anyone who even uses the expression "tax cuts for the rich" is an idiot. "The Rich" already pay basically all the federal income taxes. Almost 50% OF ALL LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE U.S. PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX, and a significant number pay a NEGATIVE TAX in the form of the EITC.

The U.S. Federal Government is PROHIBITED BY THE CONSTITUTION from taking money from any taxpayer and giving it to someone else. This prohibition applies to housing subsidies, food stamps, welfare, student grants and loans, and even Social Security. All are UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

If you want your government to take care of the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled, orphans and widows, and make healthcare a "right," then get your congressperson to propose an amendment to the United States Constitution, so we can vote on it. And if 3/5 of the state legislatures agree, we can set up such programs so you can feel good about yourself.

But until that happens, Congresspersons, such as Paul Ryan, who have sworn to protect, defend, and obey the U.S. Constitution are under no legal or moral obligation to continue taking money from taxpayers and giving it out...or worse, borrowing money from the Chinese and giving it out, regardless of how wretched the beneficiaries might be.

So if you want to take care of such people, take the money out of your own pocket and do so, and don't try to steal it from others - more successful than you could ever hope to be - and pretend that you are being "compassionate." You are fostering theft, that is all.

what think me is.....you using Jesus, who you said wasnt a real person is pretty funny.....anyway Jesus would tell the Clintons and Trump to give up their wealth and give it to the poor and just take what you need to live....think any of them would do it?...

Actually, they wish to return to the 1850s.

Donald Trump has spent his entire life involved in gambling, sexual imagery, stealing from his workers, and insists he is a sexual predator and engages in the activity often. He even used his tax exempt charity for financial gain, his charity.

Hillary Clinton has a history, for decades, helping children get health care, helping women be treated equally, helping the sick and the poor all over the world. If it weren't for her husbands infidelity from decades ago, what would right wingers have to hang their hat of hatred on?

I don't understand the justification.

I was watching an interview with Jerry Falwell, Jr. recently, and he was very, very clear what this is about. He did not bring up Jesus once, except to remind us of Jesus's remark, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." Am I saying I agree with him? No. But they are dead set against a more liberal court. The rest, they'll leave to God to forgive.

To one of these people, the evangelicals and right wing see a hero and a role model for their children.

The other they see as evil and someone who needs to be locked up.

Which is which might surprise you.

Trump has, by many indications and reports, used his wealth and celebrity to get as much "pussy" as possible, preferably with very attractive women.

In this, he is doing the same thing as many actors, musicians, professional athletes, and other public figures. The same thing as some noteworthy politicians, e.g., JFK.

Indeed, give any healthy man the same resources, and in a large percentage of the cases, he will also use his wealth and celebrity to get pussy. And be damn glad of it.

To deny this basic fact of life is simply delusional - understandable in a woman, but simply stupid in a man.

As always, the remarks in this thread by the poster who uses the moniker "rdean" are fatuous and without any thought or meaning. Not worthy of serious response.

Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) said Saturday that he was unhappy with Donald Trump’s remarks but Thompson will be voting for the GOP presidential nominee nonetheless.

“God takes the imperfect, and makes perfect for his purpose,"

The rationale here is that Trump, whom a growing number of women have accused of sexual assault, is part of God’s plan in spite of his personal failings.

The Huffington Post’s Igor Bobic reported on this strain of thinking among conservative Christians who are still voting for Trump, despite mounting accusations of sexually predatory behavior by the GOP nominee. As one Trump voter told Bobic, “We’re not electing a moral leader. But God uses people that are immoral and can also do good things.”

As one Trump supporter, a Kansas Republican Party official, told CNN, “God can use anybody. He used the harlots. It’s all about what God can do.”
